Through 8 with ~108 pitches, considerably more than he has pitched this year. Why bring him out for the 9th?

Is CPM the reverse-Goldilocks of college baseball?

This pitcher I'll yank too soon. This pitcher I'll ride too long!

This pitcher I'll use juuuuuust right.... naw.

"He's cruising why did we take him out?"

"He loses it around 85-90 pitches why did he leave him in?"

Can we all just agree that many are not criticizing the process only the results. Just about all of his decisions were defensible except when he took Poche out after 76 pitches or so (on regular rest) when the bullpen was struggling a few weeks ago.

Haven't seen him go that long yet....I thought so, especially into the 9th. Thought we would see Parker sooner...

In RETROSPECT, he probably shouldn't have gone out there for the ninth. He was cruising up until then though, and must have had the coaches convinced that the tank wasn't empty.

I thought he started the 9th with less than 100 pitches.

He was at 96 I think. Certainly not 108.

Unlike Bouman v Houston last year, Poche hasn't gone anything close to 110+ this year if I recall. Is his deepest outing this year around 7 innings and 85 or so pitches?

Dang, pretty sure I remember looking at the counter and seeing over 100... and thought I distinctly remember 108. However, I was watching at 2:15am at that point.

No. He gets complete game if Hale doesn't have error

I seem to recall the number 92 for Poche' going to the 9th. Mainieri did what everyone on this board has been calling for him to do for weeks: leave the guy in who is pitching well. If Hale doesn't commit the error, Poche' probably finishes the game in 9.

After they tied it I would have pulled him but I didn't mind him starting the ninth.

Looking back through the game thread, Poche had 96 pitches after 8. I didn't have a problem with him starting the 9th, but I would've warmed someone up to start with, like Bugg, in case Poche got into any trouble.

108 pitches was the beginning of the third batter of the 9th....I was half asleep.

Runner on 1st and 1 out.

Kid pitched a hell of a game. It's easy to second guess coaching decisions, but considering how the game was going, I had absolutely no problem with Pulmonary leaving him in. I'm also glad he let him finish off the ninth instead of pulling him before the inning was over.

123 seems excessive

I think he really wanted to let him finish
Plus he only threw 60/70 last week and will have an extra day next week

Not that we needed another thread

Why not let Dunn make these decisions

Not all situations are the same. They make decisions for certain reasons.

You are falling for the old hindsight 20/20 fallacy.

It has probably already been said, but I am not going to bother checking. In the eyes of most of our fans it's always about what they should have done. But who is Maineiri aside from a HOF coach, I am sure it was a dumb move. If Maineiri pulls him and goes with Stallings, then Stallings gives up the game tying hit.....then you now how this thread would have read.

Yes 96 going into the 9th. No problem for me with him going back out and he got the first out as I recall. Next two batters got hits although the second one should have been an error on Hale. In my mind Poche needed to come out at that point and arguably after the first hit. This was where the pitch count was 108 and per the announcers his longest pitch count this year was 104. Thankfully Cohen did the same with Fritts in the 14th and frankly he had been more shaky than Poche in the previous couple of innings.

As pointed out many times this year and whether it is Paul or Adam I don't know, LSU rarely has a pitcher warming up until serious trouble develops. At least let a relief guy "soft throw" a bit before trouble and he will warm up much faster if needed. If he isn't needed then he is fine for the next day. Just my opinion

To be honest I was hoping he'd be pulled after he threw a few balls but it was a coin flip. It might always be a coin flip. I tend to not second guess as much.
