Nope. He just signed a 4 year extension. Rumor is Cleveland State was trying to lure him away and Alleva sniffed it out.

I'm crying ;) it wouldn't be as funny if it weren't possible.

I'd rather hold out and see if we could wait until JA gets fired first

I'd rather not because Alleva isn't going anywhere soon.

Is it really that far fetched?

In his infinite wisdom, Alleva locked up Jones through the 18-19 season with an extension following the 13-14 season when Jones steamrolled his way to a NIT birth with a frontcourt of 3 future NBA players (JOB III, Mickey, Martin). I mean sure, other programs were making the NCAAT that year with no NBA guys on their rosters, but Alleva certainly didn't want to let Jones get out on the market. He had already committed theft by stealing Jones away from NTU after so many other power conf. programs had tried in vain for the previous 11 years.

F.King and Alleva showed no inclination whatsoever last year of firing Jones after he bombed out with arguably the most talent roster he'd ever get at LSU and had his team decline postseason (NIT) play. The AD is already on the hook to pay Miles not to coach at LSU. Making a change now means LSU would also have to pay Jones not to coach for another two years. Some would look at that and say that's just the unfortunate costs sometimes of trying to compete for championships. Alleva and F.King just see it as "bad optics."

Ultimately I think Alleva will be left with very little choice but to fire Jones because this season will be so bad. However, with the two clowns at the top of the pyramid there's a chance he gets "one more year."

Is it true that you can't go after the good coaches until after the tourney? As bad as it is, JJ will probably get to finish this season.

I hope not and here's why. Alleva is still here so if JJ gets fired right now, there's too much of a chance Alleva will have something to do with replacing him.

Alleva could fire JJ tonight and then wait another 2 months to hire one of the assistant coaches on the staff. Problem solved and he gets a guy who wants to be here. Win win!

But ESPN said JJ was the "winningest coach in LSU history,'' oh wait, that was last week.

He will be canned after the Florida loss at home. We will be 1-6 in the SEC and it will happen on Sunday the following day

I've got bad news for you, Alleva isn't getting fired before the end of the basketball season. So it doesn't matter if Jones is fired now or in March, Alleva is still going to be the AD.

Personally, I don't see much benefit to canning him now. I would rather see Jones and LSU come to an agreement that lets him resign at the end of the year and get whatever buyout is negotiated. He hasn't been that good, to be fair to him, he was a careeer .500 mid-major coach, what did we really expect. It's just not a good look to fire a former player mid-season, not sure it gets us anywhere on the search front or with recruits.
