Compare like opponents:

Offenses vs Ole Miss:

Total Yards LSU: 406 Bama: 396
Rushing Yds: LSU: 264 Bama: 168
Passing Yds: LSU: 142 Bama: 228

Defenses vs Ole Miss:

Total allowed yds: LSU: 313 Bama: 327
Rushing yds: LSU: 137 Bama: 76
Passing yds: LSU: 176 Bama: 251

Turnovers: LSU: -3 Bama: -1

Looks like LSU just needs to hold onto the ball. It'll be a tough game.

Its going to be a slugfest to the end. Lets see how things play out. LSU will have to throw the football more to win.

Arkansas has a week off and has lost 17 straight SEC games. Seems like a game where you take Ark and the points.
AL will be a physical battle and LSU will be playing a team that likes to line up and pound you. Plus, Ark will be beyond hungry and due for an SEC win.

Any LSU fan that thinks LSU is going to run over Alabama is operating on gut feelings rather than reason. Any Alabama fan that thinks Alabama won't struggle in Death Valley is kidding themselves. The game will be a war. Good luck and let's hope for an injury-free game!

I've seen nor heard any LSU fan who gave the faintest notion that this year's team could blow out 'Bama. On the contrary, many are still concerned by the way MSU and AU dominated those games, not really buying into the "LSU's youth is much improved since then," crowd. Have seen a few 'Bama folks who buy into that "if AU can desroy them we can too," mentality.
As far as stats, Ark. is lower now since last nights game with MSU.
LSU has played the #11, 22, 24, 26 and 33 rush defenses already.
#1, 3, 20, & 34 scoring defenses.
#1, 19, 22, & 50 total defenses. It'a s gauntlet for every team in the league, particularly the West. Won't be any different come Saturday as you said.

i feel a little better about the game (still nervous..will be tough) watching treadwell last night has me convinced he is every bit as good as cooper maybe not as fast but more physical and harder to tackle. Cooper is still my number 1 concern. Dude is a stud.

he's a definite first rounder.

Arkansas padded their stats by running up 495 rushing yards against nicholls. Had their starters in through the third quarter

Btw nicholls is 0-10 and lost to incarnate word last night

Good one Penrod, After watching LSU and Bama's games this year, this one should be close. But after watching college football this year, who the hell knows, it could be 3 tds either way. Teams this year are not very consistent from game to game or even quarter to quarter.Clearly no dominant teams have emerged yet.

My hope is LSU continues to improve as they have the last three games and Bama plays their typical road game this year. I think Bama has another loss in them maybe two.

Somehow they keep plugging away after the A&M close loss then the AL close loss at home then yesterday was another close lost @ Ms st

Ark always gives us trouble too.

Go back and look at that Arky game.

The RBs averaged 4.8 a carry in the 1st half.

In the 2nd half they ran it 7 times. Game was close but they stopped running. Threw the ball dang near the whole time.

Do you think LSU will do that?

Why? Dude is clearly trolling. Everyone on here knows our run game is our strength and everyone on here fears what might happen if BAMA can take that away. No one is over confident about beating BAMA. This a-hole just wanted to point out that our rushing stats are comparable to Arkansas, a team BAMA beat so clearly BAMA will beat us. Never mind that they almost lost that game.

I really wish we could lock opposing fans out of this board. We've already got plenty of our own who love to point any difficiencies this team has. We don't need some BAMA fan who thinks he's clever telling us what we already know.

Actually, I was not trolling. I enjoy mature, rational debates and wanted to know what advantages LSU had comparatively to Arkansas offensively.

On the opposite side of the ball, LSU does have much greater secondary talent than Arkansas. Passing the ball isn't Alabama's strength however, so I'd hope they don't take too many risks against DBU. Arkansas prevented Alabama from running the ball. We'll see Saturday whether LSU can do the same. Admittedly, Alabama's O-lines have been getting progressively worse the past couple of years, but so has LSU's rushing defense.

I agree with the posters that don't think either team will have a 2 score lead in the 4th. Field position will be key as usual. I would not be surprised to see LSU come up with a huge special teams play or two. When those happen, they'll need to turn the drive into a touchdown. The same goes for Alabama if they generate a few short fields.

It really just needs to be Saturday already, so the perennially greatest SEC West contest can begin.

Upvoted. By "run over", I meant rushing the ball down Alabama's throat. I'm observant and have noticed many posters talking about the improved running game and O-line, and I'm not sold yet based on LSU's opponents when said improvements were observed.

Good luck!

Florida just ran for 400 plus yards on GA and looked damn powerful in doing so. I would say that's a pretty good power run game. LSU defense is much better than Arkansas and our backs are better or at least more powerful and bruising. Our Oline is better than Arkansas also, FB TEs WRs are all better than Arkansas so yes it's going to be much diff than Arkansas lol you just watch and see. The team that was dominated by auburn and list by less that 2 FGs to the #1 team is much better nowa days. You'll see

You mean against the two best run defenses in the SEC when LSU played them? FL, and OM run D was pretty good at the time? LSU run defense is much improved, Chavis and miles changed done things in practice and personell and since then LSU has been better and better so.... If LSU does stop bama rush watch out. What I saw in the OM game gives me hope that if bama crowds the line we can throw the ball over their heads and will. Boot legs were ran pretty good with one week of practice I think more of that will be in the game plan this week bc it's obvious that they are working it into the offense now. I really believe LSU will finally get close to 200 yards passing from play action and to the backs this game. Also LSU will run for 180 to 200 yards by seething up the run with the play action pass. The D looks much better and if they shut bama's best WR out LSU wins period. Of course we can't lose the TO battle either. Fumbling isn't something LSU does regularly though so.... And if I were Chavis I would be putting priority on stripping the ball from bama backs. GO TIGERS

Comparing LSU & Arkansas Offensively

Brock Huard made an interesting comment about this during the Arkansas-Mississippi St. game. I pulled up the replay on ESPN so I could post it verbatim:

quote:

A lot of the conversation around town was - Well, that LSU game had to be good preparation for Mississippi St. A team that lives and dies with the run game. - But as defensive coordinator Geoff Collins said -- No no no no, very different story. LSU lines up, they're an I-formation team, you know what you're gonna get. Arkansas, week-to-week, does a wonderful job in their formations and their scheme of mixing it up.
