During Lee's awful year last year, it made me think of all the complaints Georgia fans had of Stafford his freshman year. Many people thought Stafford would be a much more improved qb after the rough start, and he obviously did. Carl's article made me think of this again, and I checked both of the qb's stats.

Stafford's 2006 stats

Lee's 2008 stats

Stafford had 13 int to Lee's 16. I'm sure Lee had more pick six's, but I think it is time that we give Lee his second chance.

Thoughts?

Stafford was a true freshman while Lee was a redshirt freshman.

Made this comment the other day and got run. Don't want to see JL be the guy but a combo of JL and JJ like JL and Hatch last year would be good for both of those guys.

and that difference is absolutely HUGE

Stafford kept the confidence of the UGA fans and his coaches, Lee didn't

I did not like Hatch playing last year at all. The only reason he was the starter was because he was the only quarterback on our roster who had even taken a single collegiate snap. JL had redshirted the previous year and JJ was a true freshman. I was not impressed by his 20-yard hail mary passes or his running the option with a 4.7 40 speed.

I don't know if it's HUGE, but to discount the fact that Lee had a whole year to study the offense before having to run it, while Stafford had to learn it on the go would be idiotic. There is a significant difference between a true frosh and a redshirt frosh.

Why not? He moved the chains, and was able to settle Lee down by letting him sit out for a couple of series. It worked against Auburn last year.

I don't know if you were being sarcastic or not, but I do believe that redshirt year makes a big difference. JL had a year to learn Crowton's system. He also had a year of practicing against college players under his belt. Stafford had neither luxury.

I think Hatch was still officially our starter against Auburn last year until he got concussed. After that, the job was JL's. To me it's concerning that our starting quarterback last year wouldn't have even been the starter at Harvard had he stuck around there.

How many championships did Stafford lead Georgia to?

That doesn't really answer the question.

He was AT BEST the 4th QB on the roster in 2007 behind Flynn, Perrilloux and Hatch

how many quality snaps do you think TC McCartney is getting this year in practice?

while one can benefit from a redshirt year, it isn't like he's running with the first, or second units very often...if at all

yes, the film study helps but the learning comes on the field. just watch matt barkley improve week after week

I would say that Matt Flynn's high-ankle sprain and RP's extracurricular activities had JL on standby in the event things got really bad.

Early Doucet was taking snaps in practice and Hatch was our #2 at Bama

Things would have had to have been disastrous for Lee to play in 07

false

how does having a shitty game against Tulane prov he digressed?

he struggled all year, from beginning to end

but he also had nice moments and showed his potential

he looked like a young kid who wasn't ready, had no defense, little fan support and struggled to reach his full poetential

The fact is Lee is not Stafford. Stafford was a 5 star prospect who Mel Kiper said then would be a first round draft pick. He is not in his class. Truth be told though Stafford's college career was weak compared to Shockley and David Greene.
