Since when does a player and his father dictate where, when and if a player plays? This is concerning on several levels...

“The offense loves him. I think he’s going to fit in well. He and his father are happy,” the coach said. “He always has the option to go back to safety if he doesn’t feel that he’s getting what he wants at receiver.”

You are reading too much into the comment I think. Naturally a parent might be concerned. Especially when you recruit a top talent to come to your school, lay out a plan, vision, and position to him and his parents on how he will be used. In spring and summer workouts, the kid does well at the position he was recruited for, and then all of a sudden you change that plan and position in the falI. I definitely think O handled it right be talking to him and his parent, and giving him the option. He presented him one thing and plan in recruiting and during spring and summer workouts, but later saw opportunity for him at receiver (at least temporarily). Looks like O was straight forward with him and dad, and gave him opportunity to move back to original position if he wants. No problem with it at all.

It's more than grades with Maea. He came to LSU as a package deal with his brother. Now that his brother is gone, he doesn't really know what he wants to do or how to go about it.

A year off will benefit him.

They're not dictating terms. When O brought Jacoby in he promised he'd be given the chance to play safety and/or WR. What's so difficult to understand?

So in addition to Maea transferring, 3 of our other starting olinemen are hurt after one week of practice.

Cool

It's funny how every topic around here turns to how Saban would do something. Get over it.

Lots of negativity on here. The idea that a player's parent should not be kept in the loop when you change their position to a different side of the ball is assinine, particularly when said 5 star just got here. If this player transferred because the dad wasn't happy you same nervous Nellies would be lambasting Coach O for not keeping the parent happy. Also is not Os job to personally take every player to class. They have an entire support department for that. You guys are ridiculous.

WELL SAID! You don't move the #1 Safety and top ATH w/o talking to his family. How do you think that would have gone over w/o discussing a plan...and that plan is to get the player on the field. Kudos to CEO for doing it RIGHT. Speaks volumes about his process, and other players and potential recruits/families have to like it.

Worlds most stupid comment without knowing fact #1. Congrats!

LSU has had 10 players leave the program for various reasons. Saban has had 9. He is far from perfect as much as his lovers want him to be.

If you've done the research, how many of these transfers were projected starters vs. players the coach didn't mind losing? I hate to give Saban too much credit, but his success sometimes gets him the benefit of the doubt. I also think he would've avoided losing a starting lineman, even if that meant bending the rules (a la Cam Rob). This sort of thing is the "head coach" stuff Ogeron has not done before.

I don't need this much transparency from Orgeron. Hate to hear that a player and his dad are dictating the terms.

You do know that players are
recruited and make their decisions in part based on certain assurances and the coaches word. So, as a coach, if you go away from that it would only be considered honorable to inform the parent of the change.

No Saban never lost a key player while at LSU unless of course you count Damian James.

The fact he would come out and say this says it all. We're fricked at OL.

It's a good thing we have Orgeron now then huh. He's actually focusing on building our OL with quality depth and recruits.

If anything this is the previous regimes doing. How could it not be. We had the exact same issues with the DL 3 years ago but is now fixed because of Orgeron. Same issues with LB 2 years ago and is now fixed again thanks to Orgeron. I have no doubts that he will do the same for our OL. Miles sucked at keeping good depth here and this is the results.

Way too much over analyzing on this site from those brief comments. Well said above. Why wouldn't O touch base with the player and parent on comfort level and acceptance of moving positions. O knows what's going on. This place will build a mountain from an ant hill in two seconds.

Damn, these coach O haters are the dumbest posters on the rant. They all wish they had their Less Miles back.

WTF Lavar Ball.
That's some bullshite you just spewed. A player NOR his father dictates what's best for the fottball team even if it means that he has to sit and learn behind others. If this guy is the best WR, I have no issue because that's what's best for the TEAM.
This "Look at me" and "Oh I might have to be patient and wait because I'm not as good as others", is the reason we burn red shirts and why we will always be behind the eight ball.

This is NOT A NOW OR ME. LSU Football TEAM is not coached by Jacoby Stevens father or Jacoby Stevens.
A little humble pie is good for the soul and a lot of these guys need to learn that lesson.

you think Saban does that? Hell no.
O is the final decision maker and doesn't need his parents feedback.

I remember when Joe Barksdale switched from defense to offense. You think Les asked his parents? WTF is wrong with you kids.

It is obvious you've neither played sports or coached a competitive team. If my old man said anything about me playing when I was playing, I would have been embarrassed. Pussification of America.

Because when the previous regime was let go there were 16 scholarship players in line to be on the team this year. Five of those are now no longer with the team and it all happened since the end of last season.
