These are bogus rpi polls I'd like to see what are the elements used to determine the RPI . The SEC is clearly the strongest baseball conference yet the SEC teams all have low rpi's (excepting lsu and Vandy).

Garbage in garbage out. Arky went to Omaha last year and lost to USC e in the semi finals didn't they?

This is the 1st year of the new RPI formula that gives teams a bonus for playing on the road.

Road wins 1.3
Road losses 0.7

Home wins 0.7
Home losses 1.3

Neutral games 1.0 either way

This is an effort to give a numerical advantage to the northern schools that spend the first 2 months of their season on the road. Most of the SEC schools play their non-conference games at home, which has created a small hole for the SEC to dig out of in the RPI.

Before they changed the method we would have 10 teams in the top 20!

so as of now we're 8-2 in road games.

11.7 pts for wins

1.4 pts for losses?

Those are not points. It is part of the RPI formula.

25% of team win%
50% opponent win %
25% opponent's opponents win %

Plus an addition weighed percentage for the home/road games.

Yeah it's pretty dumb. I've considered trying to match the formula but with Boyd's world and Warren Nolan there really is no point to do any extra work.

Boyd's RPI needs report shows that a 15-4 record would guarantee a top 8 RPI and a 14-5 would guarantee a top 16 RPI. Those could change as other teams lose but those are the base numbers.

Wow, so as it stands we need a 49-7 record for a top 8 seed?

If every other top team went undefeated and LSU finished 49-7 then we would still have a top 8 RPI. Doesn't mean we have to finish with that record to get it, but that record would guarantee a top 8 spot. As other teams lose, the needed record to finish top 8 also declines.

What do you mean no reason? Vandy is 14-1 in SEC, they deserve to be where they are at.

Uh I've followed college baseball for a while and I don't think we've ever had that many teams in the top 20.

Disclaimer: This rant is fueled by rantards blind and unabashed bias towards LSU and against Vandy sheerly because they are Vandy and not LSU...

I know people don't talk much about "style points" in college baseball because its such a different game, but they really put up some impressive numbers.

For example, in one of our common series thus far, Mizzou, the Commodores freakin smoked em.

11-5
12-1
16-4

Compared to our...

2-0
8-0
6-5

I know the conditions were different in each game. We played at Mizzou while they played at home. We also allowed 5 towel runs to their 10... But they friggin smoked Mizzou's pitching every day. No game was even close. Impressive to at least myself.

My point is that even Vandy, not just UNC, has a valid reason to be ranked the same (if not higher) than us.
