Cold Water - Brandon Harris had a pedestrian QB Rating

Let me preface this thread with some big caveats so that if I get lynched, at least they will use a new rope.
First, I want Brandon Harris to be the starting QB. He's earned it, and I look forward to a terrific season with him at QB. I have always supported him. He may not have been ready last season, but he certainly looks ready this season.
Second, I know that he only attempted 14 passes. However, his QB Rating would not have increased simply because of more pass attempts. If he attempted double the number of passes with the same results, his QB Rating would be exactly the same.
Third, Harris ran the ball very well. He did great things with the ball in his hands past the line of scrimmage.
With that prefatory language out of the way, I'll discuss Harris's QB Rating.
Harris earned a 106.89 QB Rating for the Mississippi State game. That's not good. For context, it's not in the top 100 for this year. For historical context, it's worse than the QB Ratings for all starting LSU QBs for the past seven years except 2009 Lee and 2013 Jennings.
State did not pressure Harris that much. His pocket was clean for most of the night. Notably, LSU's yards per passing attempt (5.1) was lower than LSU yards per rushing attempt (5.66).
I expect Harris to do much better for the rest of 2015, but his QB Rating (as well as his YPA) was pretty poor against Mississippi State.

the 2 quick swing passes to Dural for negative yards hurt, especially when you only have 9 completions

I might care about this if Brandon Harris was on my fantasy football team.

It's just a number. He only took one sack and scrambled really well. First start of the year. Extremely loud environment. Give the kid a break.

I'm sure that had nothing to do with play calling or our penalties right?

Sample size is important
He attempted 14 passes
The last thing you should care about right now is his QB rating. That will average out over the season to paint a more accurate picture.

Your QB rating tends to get impacted when you have a 50 yard bomb taken off the board and a 15+ yard pass that was wrongly called incomplete
Silly logic. There's this thing called sample size. More passes doesn't mean you can expect similar results based on 14 passes

Yeah - the rating goes up if he doesn't throw either of those passes - probably goes up if he doesn't complete 1 of those.

Peyton Manning had the 3rd worst QB rating in the NFL this past Sunday
Brian Hoyer > Peyton Manning
Brian Hoyer > Peyton Manning

We're bitching about QBR now with a soph qb making his 2nd start in a hostile environment facing a ranked SEC opponent.

The number I was concerned with was a solid number. 64% completion percentage. This was the best that we've had in a while and I believe that he will finish the season between 68-70%
