JJ basically let Ben do his thing. The team was just an added attraction- Ben seemed to run the team more than JJ. We saw the results of this approach.

Dale actually coached Shaq, he benched him when needed, set him on the bench and did not let him start, talked with him during the game, before the game, after the game- invested in him not just for bb but for Shaq as a future NBA player and more importantly as a person- Is it no wonder that today Dale and Shaq are still close?

CJJ had his chance - maybe he tried maybe he didn't , maybe it was Ben-

Dale impacted the life of Shaq and Shaq knows it.

Shaq as a freshman did not put up the stats Ben did.

Shaq also needed coaching. Ben came in and set historic records and is the #1 pick from start to finish

Little different animal these days with the 1 and done guys. The coaches need them more than they need to play college ball.

So time will tell in Ben reaches the level of Shaq in the NBA

Ben will need to make the TOP 50 NBA players of all time

How awesome is that LSU has three of the TOP 50 NBA players of all time?

Shaq was nowhere near the first pick in the draft his freshman season that shows you what hard work, determination and willing to be coached does for some players

The way I see it is Ben didn't give a shite about LSU. It was just a fill in before he could turn pro. You can't take these players seriously as long as there is the one and done rule. He did his thing and gave 0 fricks because at the end of the day he will be the #1 overall pick.

Completely irrelevant.

CJJ and Ben Simmons are nothing in comparison Dale and Shaq. To try to recognize any parallels seems ludicrous to me. Simmons will never be half the player Shaq was and CJJ will never be half the coach Dale was.

ETA: Simmons one-and-done mentality throughout the year became increasingly evident. And you don't become a superior player by being lackadaisical in your only college season just because you know you will get paid.

Enough with the historic records BS. Are his assists that impressive when you factor in his turnovers?

I sick of hearing how great Simmons was. He passed up jumpers from 10ft in and most of the time played hard at the end of the game to get his. Shaq loved LSU and his teammates Simmons loves himself.

"Shaq was willing to be coached."

This is true, but Shaq was not as hyped entering LSU as Simmons was.

But I still go back to this...Shaq, Roberts, Jackson...and can't escape the Sweet 16 ?????

So you didn't watch all those games where he never got touches at the end. Stop talking out of your arse.

Shaq also had this other teammate that some may have heard of, Chris Jackson. When you have a Chris Jackson, you aren't required to be the man. CJ was the man and everyone knew it. That is the big difference.

Im assuming he's talking about games like wake forest where once the games was basically out of reach, simmons would do a reverse dunk or something that would get replayed on sportscenter over and over. Most close games he'd get extra soft at the end though. We saw from early in the season that he was not interested in having the ball in his hands at the end of games.

Yet, Blanton at center...final 4.

With Dale it was always a surprise but how good does it feel to even say "sweet 16" or "final 4" in connection with LSU hoops? Those trips seem like dreams when you look at our program now.

I would say being the first player ever to be top 5 in every category is impressive.
