By position, tell me whether you think any issues are due to coaching or personnel

OC- coaching. The pieces are there to have at least a decent offense but it's not working. The harder question is the the coaching issue Miles or Cameron.

OL - Personnel. Starting 3 freshmen is a recipe for trouble

WR- Incomplete. First year on the job for Ball but it's hard to judge when they can't get the ball (by design or ability)

RB - Fine on both fronts

QB - Bad on both accounts. Scheme is awful and Harris has no touch or consistency.

DC - incomplete but leaning to personnel.

DL - Personnel. Weakest group in a long time. Lack of depth and overall talent but played well considering the deficiencies.

LB- Personnel. Zero Depth

DB - Coaching/Scheme. Raymond is a proven commodity but we definitely took a step back. Lots of busted coverage. Hopefully that gets better

ST- Coaching. Dear God!

oc - coaching, yes
ol - eh, it's both. yes 3 freshman at times.. but we have guys out of position here.. right?
wr - i think we could coach this better
rb - yeah this is fine
qb - absolutely both, but i believe good coaching can put our guys in better position for success. also, i believe there needs to be a confidence in culture here.. but that needs to be established and trusted.
dc- personnel, need more depth where it's most important.
dl - personnel. coaching did wonders from a season ago!
lb - personnel absolutely, deion jones was a beast though.
db - coaching
st - coaching

only including the ones I disagree or differ on:

Include coaching. Not talking technique, scheme. If you have a left OT with a bad ankle and a speed rusher expect him to get beat on some pass plays. Expect him to get beat almost everytime on slow developing pass plays. Conversely, even though you've been running to his side for pretty much 7 games, don't expect him to be able to pull and get to a fast LB OR drive a DT off the line. Using 1 player/position as an example only.

Coaching. Against talented teams and especially against talented pass rush teams you need to be able to both adjust routes accordingly (scheme) and attack the ball (technique).

agreed. better than in past years actually in regards to RBs better at helping with protection.

Agreed. But coach O has done wonders and they are playing much better. Part of it is they have gotten much stronger via the weight room (O was part of that too). But their technique is superb and they know their responsibilities very well (and that is NOT always to blow through the OL). Our pass rush is 100x better.

eh.. think much of is related to LB problems. Those have to work in concert. Jury out.

OMFG. In the old days I used to score multiple fantasy football leagues "by hand", it's how I learned excel. One thing I noticed was the yardage resulting from special teams (returns obviously, but a decrease of holding a team below their average too) was often much more than the offensive yardage total. It makes a huge difference. Put that at LSU where with our offense field position becomes even more important, it can be a game killer each and every week.

All coaching.

The coaches are responsible for the personnel.

The coaches decide who they will recruit, who they offer scholarships to.

Nobody else.

The coaches literally pick and choose which players they want to sign. If those players aren't any good, it's the coaches' fault.

Getting tired of explaining this to so many of you brickheads.

You have to admit there is an element of prognostication on the part of the coaches no? There will be busts. There will be some kids who aren't prepared to handle both school and the work required to be a player in big time football. Some players can't do either; plenty of cases where a kid doesn't spend his time in the weight room or film room but had all the potential in the world.

And yes, it's going to come down to the coaches 99.99% of the time when include "personnel decisions". But there are times where it just doesn't work out because of the actions (or inaction) of the player.
