Watching videos from 2007-2011 every commentator use to go on and on about LSU having 8 guys that could play on the line and not miss a beat. This is the most exciting part of it all. I'm a firm believer that your offensive and defensive lines win you most games. With coach O, were gonna regain that reputation of a nasty D line.

Totally agree. And some on this board were vehemently against the hiring of Coach O... i wonder if those who were opposed will admit their transgressions and be man enough to admit it.

I for one, have always wanted Coach O to come here because I knew he would be a valuable asset to not only the team, but also to recruiting the best young men to LSU...it seems I have been proven right

Agree and actually think it will be even better than back then really. He's going after the best of the best OOS and keeping our best instate guys here. Already have a great one for 2017 and the #1 DT for 2016 I think will play for Coach O and the Tigers. It's also the best Linbackers I've seen recruited here or at least we are after and they are seriously looking our way. This is just on name and reputation alone. Once it develops on the field recruiting can get even better! That has to be pretty scary for the rest of the SEC, they better hope we don't gain much more momentum. But coach O and steel were brought here to bring in the best of the best. Or as some would say bama type defensive talent. Get our D fielding and playing top notch and the rest will follow. The Purple Steel Curtain....

I think coach O will bring and coach up tons of talent. The only concern I have is that he will get another big time DC or HC offer sooner rather than later.

I do not recall anyone being upset at this hire. People were skeptical if he were to be hired as DC, but I do not think anyone was anything but ecstatic to get him as a DL coach.

I agree with the OP. Coach O seems to have brought with him an intensity that we have not shown on D for a while. We have been good perhaps even great on defense, but we are no longer feared. I'm hoping that returns, and it starts with the big boys up front. I can't even watch the videos of Coach O at practice, be I get too fired up.

I'm apprehensive about Steele in control of the defense, but having Coach O aboard mitigates that.

He's not just a buffoon--he's coached and recruited numerous All-Americans and three NFL first round draft picks.

Warren Sapp
Russell Maryland
Cortez Kennedy

That's hard to argue with.

What he has right now is a very secure job - one that he can and will excel at that doesn't have the pressure and risk of a head coaching position. He may be thinking that the "Holy Grail" is a few years down the road i.e. becoming the successor to CLM. For now, he just needs to do what comes naturally - recruit his butt off, develop, motivate - and the accolades and popularity will come making him the popular and obvious choice in 4-5 years.

Depth would be great but I would be happy if we just got energy on the DL back.

We need a rotation like we had in 05-07 and other years around that time.

The depth will certainly play into the pass rush. When you have 2 guys that are fresh all game beating on an offensive lineman, eventually the they'll be getting to the quarterback. I expect a LOT of sacks coming this year.

Yea, I get it. I'm just so sick of not being able to pressure the QB. Mother frickers have all damn day to sit back there.

I really do think a large part of that was Chief's defensive scheme as opposed to a lack of talent the last couple seasons. Nevertheless, Coach O will not only bring that attacking from the DL but will recruit far more successfully than Brick ever did.

I agree, for years only Alabama and Florida could rival LSU in its depth. Ole Miss, Miss St., TAM, etc. still can't match it, but Auburn and Georgia to a certain extent have built up enough depth with their recruiting classes.

Who?

A lot of people thought Steele was a bottom barrel hire, but I don't remember anyone against Yaw Yaw. We used to make fun of him, but he's a hell of a DLine coach and recruiter.
