To try and change the subject on the board for a second, do y'all feel like he comes back next year after his knee injury? I would love to have him come back and take over a DE spot next year. I think having a veteran presence on the line next year could be very helpful, also watching him coach up the guys while on the sideline has been great to see.
I think Godchaux is gone but Gillmore, Valentine and LaCouture have decisions to make.
Edit: I know he would have to use a redshirt for this year but do yall think he should/will.

I see him coming back.
This year's defense would have been tops with him in the lineup by far.

Is a 5th year senior Christian better than a Sophomore Rashard Lawrence? Idk..

Yeah he is a Senoir but he did not take a redshirt so he could apply for a medical redshirt if he wanted to.

Depth on the D-Line is better for LSU, rotating LaCouture and Lawerence is a good thing.

He doesn't need a medical redshirt. He can use this year as his redshirt.

Correct. It doesn't matter when you use your redshirt or what year you are in school (fresh, soph, junior, senior). Bottom line is any athlete on scholarship is eligible for 5 seasons to play 4 seasons on the field. That is simply how it is period. So lacouture could take his redshirt this year and be eligible next year without having to appeal to the ncaa to play next season. The only circumstance where players have to appeal for an extra year is if they had already burned their redshirt year and have had injuries that prevented them from playing for a season after it had been previously used. He should apply his redshirt to this season and be back to play next year. I believe he will do exactly that. He isn't going to go pro after siting out with an injury this year.

Coach O "if he is still here next year, hopefully so" is well known for rotating his defensive line, so it isn't a matter of who is better it is a matter of having enough skilled bodies to be able to rotate the line. So in a nutshell, it is a big benefit to LSU to have CL come back if he can get a medical redshirt especially with the experience he brings!!!

+1 - this injury was preseason - he played as a true freshman. 5 to play 4 is standard assuming the player meets other eligibility rules. Hell, if he gets hurt early next year and graduates, he could get a 6th year as a medial RS in grad school.
But, that's a discussion we hopefully never have to have.
He can redshirt this year, no question.

Can you read? Medical redshirt is not needed.
Posted on 10/13/16 at 7:10 pm to brlsu1988
He's definitely gonna come back and he will be needed. It would be great to have Valentine come back for one more season too. Those two guys along with Lawrence, Alexander, whoever we bring in in the 17 class and the pass rushers like Key, Martin, and Andre Anthony (who's gonna be a monster along with Martin after Key leaves) will be a stout DLine to go with a secondary that will be breaking in some young but super talented safeties and nicklebacks

I hate to break it to you but after one major knee surgery if lacouture does well in the combine he is gone. Cant risk another knee getting tore up. Valentine i believe is a one and done. He will do well in the combine. A man his size with the quickness. He will be a 2nd or 3rd rounder. That will be enough for him. I believe he is gone. I hope the recruits stick because we will be losing alot up front.

If he goes to the combine he is gone, a player can't go to the combine and decide to come back. LaCouture has to decide before the combine.

Ok maybe so, but that is not the point of the post or response. The post was, do we need LaCouture to come back with what we have behind him. My response was hell yes we need him back no matter who is behind him!!!
Can you comprehend?
