Are you kidding me, Chris Jackson was the best college player I have ever seen and then there is Shaq. Who on this team compares to Chris Jackson? Ben is better than Shaq was at this time but Chris Jackson was Steph Currie of his time. Stanley was no slouch either. There is no way that team should have under achieved the way they did. Dale Brown had no clue how to coach that team. How that team lost a game can only be blamed on a bad coach. That was probably one of the most talented teams in the history of college basketball.

College basketball was 10x better back then. Teams were filled with players that usually stayed 3-4 years. LSU was a super-talented team and did underachieve for sure, but at least they were a top-5 seed in the tournament and beat some of the best teams of all time during the season (UNLV and Loyola Marymount). That UNLV team beat Duke by 30 in the national championship and set the record for the largest victory ever in the championship game.

The Georgia Tech team LSU lost to in the tourney was the best team ever at Georgia Tech and they went to the Final Four. They had 3 NBA 1st rounders on it (including the #2 pick and the #4 pick) along with an early 2nd round pick. Chris Jackson was playing hurt during that game and it showed too. Nobody on this team is on Chris Jackson's level, but Shaq was just 17 and Stanley Roberts was also in his first season at LSU. They were super talented, but really raw. Shaq said they were immature and all wanted to be "the man" and so it hurt them at times.

This team isn't as talented as that one, but we're still talented. We're not making the tournament and now we're getting blown out by bad teams.

JJ learned how to coach from Dale Brown, enough said.

Yet, he coaches nothing like him. Dale Brown got his teams fired up and ready to run through walls. He was passionate on the bench. He might not have been the best at Xs and Os all the time, but he did enough right to go to 10 straight NCAA tournaments when college basketball was awesome and became the 2nd winningest coach in SEC history. And his results got him into the college basketball hall of fame.

I went to the SEC tourney in Orlando the year Shaq and Jackson were playing and watched us get bounced in second round by Ole Miss. No question that team had better talent. We don't know what Simmons will be but Shaq was a top all time player in the NBA. Chris Jackson was putting up 40 and 50 pts on a regular basis. You had Stanley Roberts backing up Shaq. Roberts played in the NBA as well. That team not winning was by far a bigger flop. This current team has one maybe two guys that will ever play big minutes in the NBA.
