#LSU NT Greg Gilmore says he's rotating with Travonte Valentine at nose. The two players are separated by 50 pounds.

I looked up Greg Gilmore on lsusports.net and he weighs 308 pounds.

Dave Aranda at Wisconsin first had a typical nose tackle Beau Allen who weighed ~330 who had 8 sacks & 15 TFL in 3 yrs. Not sure how much he played or was used. After Borland and Allen left, Aranda used "Tweeners" and still had success.
My question to you guys is, what type of NT (or a specific player) will best fit Aranda's system at LSU and why?

Maybe I should make rules for this haha. Choose from the current LSU roster.

May be cliche at this point...but TV really is a prototypical nose. Heavy, quick, and agile.

That's why everyone is so pumped about having him. Aranda likes mobile guys, so if could play at 320-325, that seems optimal.

Add in the fact that arky and Bama have pushed our dline around lately, I'm glad to have a guy his size, along with a 280 and 300lb DEs.

From hearing Aranda talk about it, it sounds like a quick, penetrating nose guard is what he prefers over a big Terrance Cody type.

Of all recent LSU linemen, I would say Glen Dorsey is Aranda's ideal nose guard.

Trevonte Valentine might have all of the characteristics of Cody and Dorsey, as reports from camp indicate he's quick, fast, immovable, fastidious, considerate, honest and leaps tall buildings.

I hope it's all true.

6'4" 345

6'3" 346

6'2" 337

I like them to be big, strong, and athletic.

Val is the perfect combo for nose... His value will be determined not by stats but by the mass of bodies deposited in the middle.. Time will tell but his departure and reemergence this year, may have been the best thing ever to happen to him..

Seems like aranda can adjust the rest of the defense to make any body type work. I think he has his ideal NT in Valentine though, allowing Godchaux to go outside.

Lacoutre was more of a nose than Godchaux but not a true nose so he put a penetrating guy in the middle and an anchor on one edge. He was then going to help the other side with his backers IMO. With the addition of Valentine we can go more traditional

C'mon, man. He is too big of a dude to be called this. You can do better than this. I believe in you.

Haha, the gifs are awesome, but I don't know if we should be judging our NT based on his ability to pick 6.

Shortest route to the QB, NT. The rotation of Valentine and Gilmore will be big time. The 3-4 all starts with the Nose.
