They have an open stadium, and if the weather is bad it can ruin the field.
Actually, they replaced the grass with artificial turf after that debacle.

he field that LSU played Penn State on a couple of years ago was the worst field I have ever seen.
They got field turf put in the following year.
Yeah. I still have nightmares about that damn field though. SO MUDDY.

AOL!!!!!! The Citrus Bowl is the name of the stadium. How would you renovate a bowl game???????????????????????

I wouldn't mind it as much if it were at least called the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl again...can't fight the commercialism though, I guess.

Why not?
As fans we can call it whatever we want.
Anyone remember 3com park? How did that work out?
If the fans just refuse to go along with every stupid thing a sponsors says, we wouldn't get names like "Gallery funiture dot com Bowl" - which hs since changed to the more rational "Houston Bowl".
I still refer to the Peach Bowl as the Peach Bowl and the Citrus Bowl as the Citrus Bowl. What are they gonna do, sue me? If everyone did this, we wouldn't have to figure out what bowl is what every couple of years when they get a new sponsor.

Good idea. I learned the "new" names of the Chick-fil-A Bowl and Capital One Bowl first, so that could be weird, but that would be cool to do.

The Citrus Bowl has been called the Capital One Bowl for a long time now.
You can't spell Capital One Bowl without UT

it should be considered as one of the 6 semifinal bowl sites.
From what I have read, the only two bowls that are definitely in the rotation are the Champions Bowl (new bowl matching Big XII and SEC) and the Rose Bowl. All others, including Sugar, Fiesta and Orange, will have to bid to get into the rotation. The Fiesta may have trouble due to the corruption issues they had, so they might not get a spot. New bowls with a decent chance, IMO, would be Jerry's Cotton Bowl, Chick-Fil-A and Capital One(Citrus).
My guess is that the six will be:
Champions Bowl
Rose Bowl
Sugar Bowl
Orange Bowl
Cotton Bowl
Capital One Bowl
Chick-Fil-A will make a run at it, and will probably flash a lot of money, but in the end I think Capital One will win out. But, who knows? The Fiesta is not out of the picture, either.

Well, you do realize, I assume, that "Citrus Bowl" was itself a commercial sponsorship-mandated name, right?
It was actually called the Florida Citrus Bowl, named for the Florida Citrus Growers Association (I think). Its original name was the Tangerine Bowl.
