In the early stages of this season, a lot of the experts argued LSU's defense couldn't be fixed. Specifically, there was no way to hide the team's lack of size, experience and depth on the dline.

What changed? How'd Chavis fix this unfixable problem?

Beckwith is the man. That's the biggest change.

More creative blitzing. He's also been moving hunter around a little bit more. Beckwith being in was a no-brainer. Rasco has been standing some to help create pressure. Jamal Adams and Godchaux are awesome.

Honestly, how did it take them this long to bench Welter?

Beckwith is an SEC caliber player and the much needed change. The DL seems to be playing better as the year progresses as well imo

Yeah, like Miles, Chavis holds his finger in the air to see which way the wind is blowing. He got feedback from the fanbase that Welter wasn't cutting it, made the change and here we are.

This is why this cannot be considered his best coaching season. Welter was a known quantity coming into this season. He started all last year and never displayed the tools of an SEC MLB. I am still stunned that we had to get destroyed up the middle in two SEC games before that change was made.

Let's cut Chavis a break. He is new on the job, he never has any contact with the players either in practice or in meetings. He has no way of knowing as much as you do about playing defense in the SEC. He can't possibly be expected to do the right thing can he?

nothing special, he just stayed the course and kept coaching his guys up. I don't agree with every move they make (nobody's perfect), but our coaching staff is considered one of the best overall for a reason. they know what they're doing.

No, it's actually not his best coaching season.

But, he and everyone has adapted by changing up. Adams & Beckwith have helped us on defense. We need to be even more keyed in to beat Bama.
