I love how this guy says Saban's recruiting won the NC in 2007 then, in the next sentence, discounts recruiting as a factor in winning in college football. I guess Nick's players came ready to go, no coaching required.
its like the "Miles wins on talent alone" argument. These idiots think that a kid can step right out of high school into the SEC, with no practice, coaching, training, or film study, and win 80% of their games, 3 SEC West titles, 2 SEC championships, a NC with 2 NC appearances.

Miles certainly deserves criticism, but no need to lie
quote:
First he "won with" Nick Saban’s recruits—which could be argued in reverse since Saban’s 2004 defending national championship team limped to a 9-3 record with several lackluster performances and a disappointing loss to Iowa in the Capital One Bowl.
With virtually that same team in 2005, on the heels of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Miles energized a storm-devastated state and led the Tigers in a Herculean (and humanitarian) football campaign that netted 11 wins, an SEC West title and a 40-3 drubbing of No. 9 Miami in the Peach Bowl.
Yet over 75 percent of the starters on the 2007 team were recruited by Miles and his staff, capping the best three-year stretch in LSU history by going 35-6 with two West Division Crowns and 3-0 in bowl games, including two BCS victories and a national title.
That comes from an old, but accurate article: LINK

Miles won in 2005 and 2006 with players HE HAD NEVER MET, MUCH LESS RECRUITED.
And most of 'Saban's players' under Miles were freshman on the bench under Saban.
Eleven of the of 22 startes for LSU in the 2008 BCSNCG were MILES' recruits.

nless you're undefeated you're the luckiest and most fortunate that year. it amazes me how LSU fans will try to diminish a National Championship just to spite the coach
Only some non-rational thinking LSU fans will pound their chest and say that LSU wasn't lucky to be in the NC game in 07.
Everyone else knows we were extremely lucky.

Every team is extremely lucky to be there. You aren't making any sense and it's obvious what you are trying to do.
Discredit NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Saban left on good terms and the offensive system and staff designed by Saban (Fisher, etc.) stayed at LSU.
Fischer was at fsu in 2007.
Jimbo is a good coach. But they are struggling to win games against bad teams. If they were in the sec west, they would be a 3 loss team this year. His offense struggled at LSU at times under both coaches and under Bowden with elite talent.

Do you think the most fortuitous mulligan in CFB history is a factor?

One of the greatest teams of all time does not get beaten 21-0 on the biggest stage.
Sorry, but not one of the greatest.

Of course, but I mean getting fricking stomped 21-0 in your own backyard is not GOAT material IMO.

Uh, nooooooo. We DID our part. We won 11 games against a much stronger schedule than the other contenders including the SECCG, to get to the NC game.
The other teams that lost were either extremely 'unlucky' or just not good enough.
How the hell was LSU 'lucky' that OTHER teams lost. That had nothing to do with LSU.
LSU sure wasn't 'lucky' against Arkansas or Kentucky !!!!

LOL. Major upset of Pitt over WVU wasn't lucky? Child please. Lucky that UGA didn't win the East due to having to play UT early? UGA would've fricking wiped the floor with us with Stafford and Moreno if fricking UK and Casey dick led-Arkansas hung 50 on us.
Only a coach as incompetent as Les Miles could find a way to frick up a Saban-senior led team like 07.

Winning a title with someones else's players is the worst argument point in the history of organized sports.

UTenn was their 6th game of the '07 season, not "early." They scored 24 vs UK in their 11th game so it's a little overtstatment to think they would've "hung 50 on us." They didn't reach 50 all year vs anybody.
And you do know the 50 pts in the Arky game was in 3OT's. It was 28 all at the end of regulation.

The senior class was Saban's players. That's just a fact of life.
However, we won the NC because we were the luckiest and most fortunate team that year. That's also fact.
I'm only commented to note that I meant to downvote this horrendous bullshite but accidentally hit upvote. Please disregard that...

So now we're going to disregard championships won because of what if's?
Holy fricking balls...
Well...what if Bin Laden had not brought down the Twin Towers on 9-11? You think our 2001 LSU team which had clearly not gotten it's shite together until a mid season loss to Ole Miss at home and which had been prison raped earlier in the year by Rex Grossman at home was going to beat AU on the originally scheduled September Saturday? So...guess we don't count that SEC title right? Too lucjy to count? I mean...how fricking lucky does a team have to be to go 5-3 in the SECW and still manage to fall arse backwards into Atlanta? the 2001 team required middle east terrorism to make it to Atlanta...no slight against Nick though, right?
I honestly don't know what to think of this place anymore. I'm fine with fans making an attempt to not be homers, but since when has going in the complete opposite direction and shitting on your own program become "keeping it real?"

What? I'm not disregarding a championship. I'm glad we won. People point to this championship 7 fricking years ago to justify a coach who is inept and clearly on a decline. I"m just pointing out he got fricking lucky.

'01 was a lucky turn of events to win that championship. Still was amazing how far Nick brought LSU from the '99 season. Cupboard was not all that full.

I just fail to see how calling Les incredibly lucky (think about all the close calls) is a bad thing. It's truth. Les could just as easily had lost the following games:
ASU 05
Bama 05
Auburn 07
Bama 07
It's also a bad sign when Les' offense needs an NFL QB not to look like a monkey fricking a football. NFL
QBs aren't readily available in college.

bullshite. You are quite out of your mind.
More players were drafted from Dinardo's last 2 years of '98 and '99 and his leftover players who played for Saban in '00 and '01 than any of Saban's recuriting classes.
