I must admit I wasn’t exactly expecting Marceaux to start but I trust that PM knows his team better than us

USM has announced freshman Gabe Shepard the starter tomorrow. ASU has not made any public announcement.

Interesting. Dude hasn't pitched very much for USM.

He's thrown very well his last two starts.

It'll be interesting.

It looks like the USM coach is attempting to save his best arms to come back up through the loser's bracket against other teams' #2 & #3 pitchers while hoping his freshman starter catches lightening in a bottle in game 1.

That's a bold strategy, Cotton.....

It's looking like Marsh will get the start for ASU who is their ace.

I wonder if ASU will follow suit and save their ace for Saturday as well now.

ASU doesn't have a very deep rotation and winning the first game is equally as important as the second game. I think they wisely stick with Marsh and play it safe.

This only makes sense if you think that Johnny Wholestaff is better than Marceaux

I wouldn't exactly call Henry plus Hess/Peterson/Fontenot on the back end "Johnny Wholestaff".

And I do believe that combination of guys on Saturday is as good, or better, than Marceaux on Friday.

Marceaux is the guy we need the longest outing from, so it makes perfect sense to pitch him against the weaker opponent.

That's a bad decision IMO because the only thing you gain is a more certain win over Stoney (minimal), and you lose a lot in the Winners Bracket game.
Not necessarily and SBU is equal to any in these two regional (minimal)

Hannigriff? LOL! And you buy his crap? He's a fricking radio talking head. WTF does he know about pitching? If he knew a damn thing about baseball, he'd be coaching instead of running his mouth! Wise up egghead!

If Mainieri thinks Stoney Brook is as good as the others then His decision makes sense.

I don’t think he believes that and I don’t agree with him if he does.

I just hope it doesn't matter what order we throw guys.

But I think part of the decision is that there is confidence in Marceaux to go 7 or 8 and save the bullpen. And if we score enough runs for Aaron George or Riggs threadgill to finish the game, we will be sitting well for the next couple games.

Henry, followed by Hilliard and then Hess to throw off timing in game 2.

Walker, Fontenot, Peterson, Beck for game 3, not in that order.

If we can take care of SB, getting Marsh out of the way for ASU is huge. Anyone that they pitch against us besides Marsh is at a disadvantage IMO.

The only reason i can see starting Marceaux today is to give him full rest for the first game of the Super Regional

That is huge by itself. There are pros and cons. I was hoping for a midweek guy because I think you can win with that. Also, if you are desperate, you might get an inning or two on Monday provided you get him out of the game Friday with a low pitch count. Bertman did that often in the 90's.
