Where do you guys rank Clyde in terms of all the RBs we've had there? Does he crack the top 5 even with just 1 year of production essentially?

I think he’s easily had one of the top 2 or 3 seasons for an LSU RB.

Potentially fringe top-5 overall because of how crucial his play was in certain games to give us the best season ever.

But you’re right in that the main thing holding him back as a definite top 5 RB at LSU is his career production.

My bad, misread the question.

I'd put him #4 or #5. Kevin Faulk, Dalton Hilliard and Justin Vincent deserve to be in that top 5 as well. LF simply from a pure talent standpoint deserves consideration as well.

Personally, I'd put him right below Fournette and Faulk. Right ahead of Guice.

Single season production, possibly.
Career or overall talent, no.

He's in my top 5 for sure based on heart alone. I've never seen a back play with more heart than he did against bama. He was going to do whatever it took to win that game.

LSU has had better backs but I don't know if they've ever had a back with more heart. It's crazy to think about it now but going into this season he was viewed as a change of pace back. Many people felt like Emery would be the guy and Clyde would be more of a 3rd down back.

He entered the season with doubters. He left the season a legend.

That truck against Clemson was amazing. Fired up the team. Bama game was great too. So Versatile. Right up there with Guice, Faulk. Fournette was great for years.

Faulk was not great for years? He is the LSU all-time leading rusher. CEH is not even in the top 10.

Billy Cannon

Steve van Buren

Chareles Alxander

Jeremy Hill

Jerry Stovall

CEH had an incredible season, Cannon won the Heisman, Stovall was runnerup and Alexander was a Heisman candidate. Hard to choose him ovr these backs, all were greast in their era.

I think these takes of Clyde being top 5, is a little bit prisoner of the moment. Of course clydes contribution this year cannot be understated and his unique style fit perfect within our offense, but I wouldn’t have Clyde above LF, Guice, or Hill. And those are just 3 within the past 10 not even mentioning the greats. We all probably love Clyde more than most of the previous running backs but that shouldn’t dictate where he falls on an all time list.

Justin Vincent

Lol what? This is a few days after winning the 2019/20 National Championship. Not a few days after winning it in 2003/4. The only time in history that Vincent's name would come up in an all time discussion. And even then, you'd have been retarded to remotely consider him for a top 5 list. JV had an incredible 2nd half and postseason run in 2003, but got progressively worse each season afterwards and let the hype and late nights at Fred's derail any hopes of success after his championship season run.

Single season CEH no doubt belongs in the top 5 discussion. All time probably not.

Came here to post this. That game alone will have me irrationally rank him higher. He was so damn good, so many incredible plays in a game that was so emotionally satisfying (and psychologically too) getting over that Bama hump

Kevin Faulk and Dalton Hilliard were my favorites up to this point but Clyde is on top now. CEH Has got the heart of a Tiger. I'd want him on my team all day long. he'll give you everything. His stats are good too. Rushing for over 5 per and receiving for 8 is high productivity. His receiving numbers are actually better than Faulk and Faulk was a master. He didn't have Burrow tho.

Fournette was a freak of talent but I question his heart. He had one monster season though which is record breaking for LSU.

Charles Alexander was incredible his JR year but didn't do much his freshman or sophomore year although he's an all-time great.

I'm ranking CEH as number one

Hell no! You are ate up with recency if you put CEH 5th in LSU history. Geez man, Billy Cannon, Kevin Faulk, Leonard Fournette, Jeremy Hill, Derrius Guice, LaBrandon Toefield, Dalton Hilliard, Charles Alexander, Terry Robiski.

Clyde was a special player who fit this offense very well. But this offense ran on the axis of Burrow and Chase. Burrow was obviously the man, and Chase forced defenses out of everything they wanted to do (or in the case of Clemson, he torched them). Guys like Clyde and Moss, while very good, were beneficiaries of the space and opportunities created by those two other-worldly players.

The game has changed so much, especially in BR. CEH is in the Darren Sproles mode with his ability to catch the ball so well. A tough, small back that is hard to find, much less tackle. Top 5 for the Tigers all time? No, but possibly top 10. Heavily influenced by the overall team success, but starting with Cannon, there have been some great ones.

The youngsters here have no idea about some of the really great Tiger RBs; a far from complete list would include:
Faulk, Fournette, Guice, Hilliard, Addai, Cannon, Hill, Alexander, Ware, Ridley, Charles Scott, Toefield, Harvey Williams, Dominick Davis, Mealey, Robiskie, Brad Davis, Jimmy Taylor, Cantrelle & a personal favorite, Howie Gajan.

Hard to break the top 5 on that list.
