How we handle their run game will decide the outcome. We can’t just play ‘chase him 30 yards downfield or here’s 8 free yards before contact’ and expect to win. The DLine will do their job but the LBers have to show up

Probably not. But Clark will pile up the tackles 10-12 yards down the field so posters here can declare him an all-American.

Stack the box and put our CBs on an island and we will shut them down offensively easily, our DBs overmatch their WRs by a lot.

The real numbers are 4 ypc against Penn State for tank. The other games seriously inflated the stats.

It’s pretty simple to me run blitz all day long and let the qb’s beat you with their arm.

Auburn is averaging 4 yards before contact on runs. I assume that’s probably inflated bu some long runs where he was untouched but their line still gets push.

The D-line needs to play the pass after they have stopped the run this game and strong, Clark, and Baskerville need to stop people in their tracks. No falling backwards.

Having Gaye back will be huge, I see a lot of D-line personnel being Gaye, ferrel, Logan, smith with subbing in Roy, Guillory, and evans.

Missing Anthony hurts with this game.

Anyway, LFG!

This has to be the plan. Neither Nix, nor Finley have shown the ability to win games on their own, at least throwing the ball. We have to make them one dimensional and get them away from their bread and butter.

It was only 3.3 against Georgia State. He's good, but he's not unstoppable

this doesn’t work out so well when you have TEs and WRs running wide open

We did that against ucla and they still ran it down our throats

I think the real question will be: can we run the ball? If we can have success through the air like we've had all season and rush for 150 yards then we put ourselves in a position to control the game.

This is the game where we truly see what our team is. Auburn is very similar to UCLA in that they will play physical upfront and establish the run

BJ and Gaye have to set the edge. Gaye struggles the most with this

Clark and Baskerville have to shine. They did terrible against ucla. Guessing on wrong gaps or reacting way to late.

Yeah, I say we stack the box and make them prove they can beat us through the air.

Go back and watch the UCLA game. They showed weird formations we certainly didn't practice for and our coaches didn't adjust at all. They put the players in bad situations. When UCLA went unbalanced they had us out gapped. Jones has shown the last 3 weeks he is figuring out what these guys can do on defense and I have faith he'll fix the issues but week 1 was on the coaches not the players. UCLA out schemed us and anybody that knows anything about the X's and O's of football will tell you that.

Ucla is also the only team so far that has lined up under center trying to establish the run first and committing to a ground/pound effort. I don't doubt Jones can adjust but he didn't against ucla even when we put 8 in the box - most of that is on the players. Like I said not setting the edge and then missed gap assignments by the linebackers.

I'm excited for this game because I hope to see the changes you just alluded to.

You keep saying we put 8 in the box and couldn't stop the run but you have to look closer. Take for example a play late where they pick up a first down to seal the game. UCLA comes out with a guard, tackle, TE, and two extra HB's lined up outside the TE right on the center. To that side LSU lines up 3 tech a 5tech and a DB head up on the outside HB. That is pure garbage from a scheme standpoint. It's a super unbalanced look. You have to push your alignment here. You can't have your nose in the weak A gap there. He's gotta be in the strong A gap. His weak A gap alignment allowed the center to block back on him and the play side guard to pull. Strong A alignment doesn't allow a play side guard puller in that situation. Putting your nose strong A can also move the DT to a 4 instead of a 3 not allowing for the easy down block. Furthermore UCLA is basically in 22 personel here and we are in a nickel look. That's bad. You can't expect a DB to be a force with all that beef on the field. Like I said in my previous post LSU wasn't prepared for these funky formations and the paid dearly for it. It's hard for the players to succeed when put in bad situations.

What is the old adage? "Do not argue with a fool. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience."
