Does the rant think the talented LSU DBs can play man coverage against the talented Bama WRs?

I'm thinking the best way to stop Hurts from running is to have Jamal Adams play more of a rover position or hybrid walk up safety/LB to spy the mobile QB and help against the run. I'm not convinced Beckwith or another LB will be the best spy for Hurts given the demands Beckwith and the LBs will be under stopping the Bama RBs. If Jamal is needed for his speed and ability to tackle Hurts, can the corners stay close enough to make Hurts throw into tight windows? The knock on Hurts is he isn't the most accurate passer.

My concern with this: It looks like LSU DBs have been in good position/coverage all year, but having difficulty getting their heads around to make plays on the ball. While Bama's WRs have very good ball skills, it will still require good throws from Hurts.

I think this is the most intriguing matchup between LSU defense and Bama's offense. What does the rant think is the best option for stopping Hurts from picking up those 3rd and medium to long conversions?

yes

while bama has talent at the WR position, ridley is their most dangerous WR but i believe tre white can shut him down

im more worried about OJ Howard's usage

Yes, Hurts' accuracy on passes longer than 5 yards is questionable and we have really good DB's. If we are smart we play man all game and sell out on stopping the run and make him beat us through the air. I like our chances then.

This. He's a nightmare match-up for most teams and a great security blanket for an average QB.

Hurts is very inaccurate on deep balls and when pressured. We can man up when we are blitzing and on plays that are more likely to go deep (2nd and short, 3rd and long).

The guy we shut down last week for Ole Miss is better than Howard.

the secondary is more than capable of manning up, Hurts is extremely limited as a passer.

vs bama, Kelly had a 65 percent completion percentage for 421 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, and a QBR of 178.16

vs LSU it 60.6 percent, 218 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs, and a QBR of 113.98

no one has come close to shutting Engram down the way LSU did

We will really need some great play by the LBs to both stop the run and take care of their responsibilities in the passing game against the TEs and RBs out of the backfield. Of course Bama will make some plays, but if you take their strengths away in the running game, I think LSU's coverage will step up against the pass enough to frustrate and rattle Hurts like he hasn't dealt with up to this point.

We need some of those 50/50 balls to go our way.

Tre White shut down Amari Cooper. Ridley won't be an issue. Hurts legs and our interior Dline are my main concerns.

I think fans tend to oversimplify things. We're not going to play one coverage all night. Man, zone and combo coverages will all be a part of gameplan. I'm sure Aranda wants to throw a lot of different looks at the true freshman.

I haven't been that impressed with Bama's recievers outside of OJ Howard. I think they will shut them down.
