matt mauck was terrible in big games. He turned the ball over a ton against ranked team in 03

Not sure if anyone saw the spread option vere play we ran against Oregon and Miss St., but he handed it to the RB both times and ran around the edge. Both times he could have moonwalked into the endzone because no one actually follows him. It's almost funny.

I hate when ppl say this. Mauck set the TD passing record, and put up a top 5 (maybe top 3) passing yd performance in 03.

People who say Mauck was just a "game manager" don't know what the hell they are talking about. Dude threw for over 2,800 yds and 28 T's in '03

Drew Brees is a classic example of the type of QB that Lee is.

they are similar in that they are both pocket passers, but Brees has great footwork. He also throws the ball for 300 yards regularly. He was also a heisman finalist twice at Purdue. He also never had a season where he was negative in rushing yards. In his senior season he ran for 521 yards (Jefferson ran for 450 last year) for 45/game

Brees very, very, very seldom throws off his back foot. He usually throws from both feet and he's up on his toes to get extra height.

Brees is also extremely mobile. He may not run for yards, but he can buy time like few can.

lee is a gun slinger at heart he has no intention on running. he will always be looking to throw it. one reason for all the pics his freshman year.

It's all a set up the Hat has going. Lee continues to pitch out on the option until the time is right in the right game and he will take it in for the winning touchdown. Got to look at the big picture.

He has the ability to pick up a couple yards for us if no one is open, I'd rather him throw it away dont want to risk injury with someone who has never taken an important snap in college as our only other option
he can still get 3 yards for a first down?

If he is that afraid to get hit, business number one for saban is to knock lee out of the game. At the very least rattle him so bad our offense folds.

I am having flashbacks of JJ getting speared full speed in front of the refs.

Please explain your reasoning on this. I do not disagree but want to find out if for the same reasons.

He isn't just a game manager. He is a play maker. You don't throw 3 TD passes against a top 25 team on the road if you're just a game manager.

The one to OB33 was a game changer

IMO one of his biggest problems early on in his career was that he simply could not make himself stay in the pocket...he would freak out and either throw it up for grabs or run around in circles back there until someone sacked him for a major loss...

I would honestly rather see him err on the side of caution and miss out on an occasional short gain than revert to the days of happy feet...he does at least now throw while facing forward with his feet on the ground (for the most part)...lets not mess with what is working...

Drew can throw it on backpeddle, but doe3sn't make it a habit. I hope we don't need a mobile QB to loosen up a DL.
