We need some objectivity in a worse way. Asking for a non-emotional post on where things stand realistically with the program. Just trying to avoid catastrophe syndrome...HELP!

Firstly, LSU has to win their next 5 games (including Kentucky), and reach the SEC Tournament final to have a shot at making the NCAA Tournament.

If they lose to Kentucky, we need to win the SEC Tournament to make the NCAA Tournament.

If neither of those two things happen (they won't), there's really no reason for the head coach to keep his job. However, he likely will.

Johnny will probably be given another season, we won't make the tournament again next year, and then he'll be fired.

What program? Only a real basketball coach who can coach and recruit at some level can build a program here. There has to be some kind of balance.

Our only hope is that Alleva fancies himself a basketball guru (tournament committee and all that) and wants to make a splash.

I'm baffled that people actually care enough about LSU roundball to melt.

I mean... This is pretty objectively a catastrophe. Not sure how to get around that fact.

9-3 in conference tied for 1st place. Hold serve at home and win 1/3 on the road to finish the season and you likely win the SEC regular season.

This team is now possibly on the NIT bubble.

Team quit and it's blatantly obvious. Even Ben now plays with no sense of urgency. Something happened after the Bama game and I sure would love to know what. Whatever it was it killed the season which was turning around nicely and cost Johnny his job

You can't blame the season on the last two games. Sure, the team has quit, but let's not forget how bad they were in November and December. They really only played well for about a three week stretch in January/February.

No but the season was still fine had we gone on the road and won these 2 games, which we didn't even bother to show up for. I just would love to know what's really behind this. Why did they quit on Johnny

I think this team is weak minded. Bama took their heart.
Most disappointing is the failure that is this defense, we are a terrible defensive team.
Add to that we have gotten nothing but bad play from our PG's and there you have it.

Back at home Sat, let's see if this team has an ounce of pride left.

Why did LSU lose twice to a poor Auburn team and choke away an 18 point second half lead in the NCAA tournament last year?

Why ask why? Just know that this program is going nowhere until big changes are made.

it's my understanding that at times, a play call has come in from the coaches (primarily for simmons) that wasn't run. i understand that if that happens once, ok. maybe a miscommunication or a mistake. if it happens twice, you bench his butt until his attitude is better. can you imagine a player not running what coach k calls?

would that have saved the season? i have no idea. does that have anything to do with simmons' "academic matter?" i have no idea but i doubt it very seriously.

as for next season, bringing in a couple of promising juco players with the current crew. i just don't know how much of a difference it will make with the current skipper. it's possible the tigers will be better but, the ceiling will be much, much lower than this season or last.

This is the danger of hiring a former player. A feel good story at the beginning turns into a nightmare at the end. All the difficulties that come with a coach not working out become even worse when it's one of your own.

He should never have been hired in the first place. He was barely a .500 coach in the Sun Belt, what did they think he was all of a sudden going to be John Wooden?
Why didn't any other schools try hiring him away from North Texas?
This may go down as the second/third worst hire in school history behind Curley Hallman and on par with Trent Johnson.

Where do things stand?

LSU has Simmons
LSU has CJJ as coach
LSU is not making the tournament unless we win the SEC tournament

Things are pretty damn miserable.

Lol at your thread title & post.

Problem: we play out of control playground ball with guys who can't shoot and our defense is a joke.

Solution: A new coach
