calls for you to check to a run, is it really a pass play and we just didn't see it?
i.e. See tree in forest.

We should just count toss dives as passes to make everyone feel better.

This is an excellent point. Boom folks we have a balanced offense.

Checking to a run play helps push the linebackers back

and brings safeties crashing through the A gaps..running against a 9-10 man front is definitely the way to go.

Sounds to me like they didn't have very much confidence in either the OLine or Harris. MSU was bringing a safety down to help stop the run (just like everyone does to LSU). That means there has to be some space in the middle of the field. Either they didn't think the Oline could pick up the defenders or they still don't trust ANY QB to throw over the middle of the field.

A passing play is essentially identical to a running play. It's impossible for the average fan to understand the difference. Occasionally when the ball travels forward through the air it makes a statement about the nature of the play. If you study the game enough you can begin to glimpse clues and patterns that are unnoticeable to the untrained eye.
I have actually discovered that if the ball travels forward regardless of the details involved it is generally a positive(this is greatly dependent on other factors such as who is currently on offense)
