I made a post of Burrow vs Tua charts in a previous thread to show how Joe is pushing the ball down the field at a much higher percentage and actually completing a much higher rate. When I saw these charts it was eye opening and I wanted to share.

Absolutely amazing to this point.

According to the SEC Network, Burrow is the first quarterback to complete 83 percent of his passes and have over 1,100 passing yards in the first three weeks of the season in 20 years.

This really speaks to the improvements our WRs have made as well. Watching them, they look like they could catch anything thrown their way.

Bama's scheme are those damn crossing routes across the middle 5-10 yards down field. Tua is finding the man that breaks free from the cluster and if he hits him in stride one of bama's great WRs take it to the house.

So basically Tua throws it 5 yards and lets his freak athletes and blockers take care of the rest. He isn’t anywhere near Burrow’s level on the deep ball

So this is saying that Tua is Captain Checkdown?

Joe’s completion percentage past 10 yards is pretty damn awesome honestly.

Utilizing the YAC. Just look at how many TD's are thrown inside 10 yards. You can also see how many incompletions Tua throws past 10 yards. I think you can scheme this but you have to get pressure and be physical with the receiver at the line in man coverage to throw off the timing. It will be extremely tough to stop with those receivers.

Sometimes. But mostly it's really a reflection of the Steve Sarkisian pro style offense with a HEAVY dose of crossing routes 5-10 yards down the middle of the field. Tua is hitting the free receiver out of the cluster of crossing routes.

This sounds like a really great system that they've built in Tuscaloosa. They should come up with a name for quarterbacks like this.

Tua throws a TON of slants, really hasnt thrown downfield much this year, Burrow has a way higher air yard % than tua.

Burrow has thrown 43 of 90 of inside 10 yards.

Tua has thrown 66 of 91 inside 10.

The key is to stop bama's slot receiver from crossing. It's usually Smith. You have to jam him at the line. But teams are scared of him and play off.

When he crosses it causes confusion on defense as defensive DBs and LBs switch. Usually they can't switch fast enough. If you slow the slot guy down they can't make the cross in time and the rest of the DBs and LBs can maintain defensive responsibility.
