Ashleigh Gnat is the most dynamic athlete on campus. She is always consistent and brings it every meet. Her personality and sheer joy at performing are so evident in her routines. She is the anchor of what is developing into a special team that seems focused to bring home the title which narrowly eluded them last year. The PMAC will be electric next week and the Deaf Dome will once again be rocking as it hosts Friday Night Flight.

I guess you aren't the only one to think so. I'm not aware of her, but she seems to be well thought of.

Is she as good as Kristie Phillips?

Apples and oranges...Kristie competed as an elite gymnast (Olympic teams are chosen from this group) and was US national AA champion 3 times...she never competed NCAA...

Ashleigh competed Level 10 and was very successful at that level. Skill wise she can do a much harder vault than Kristie, and has bigger tumbling as well.

Both excel at performance quality...they have a presence on floor that is rare...

Bugs came up last night, final event, final participant. The team needed a 9.375 on the beam to win and you just knew it was over, done, in the books as a W!!! She is a very consistent top end performer and great leader of our team. Championships pivot on that leadership.

Bugs Rocks!!!

No it was not the difference, because they did not count that fall.... 6 girls perform but only 5 scores count.... This also is the same for Sydney's fall on beam we did not count her score.

So that means the margin of victory was what it was.... No Falls were counted by either team throughout the whole meet

That is a great point. Bugs, Sidney Ewing took a group of freshmen and sophomores and convinced they could win a national championship last year. They damn near did. Now this is deep and experienced team which is primed to take home the title.

Gnat on the mat is absolutely awesome. Gymnastics is one of the best live events on the LSU campus. The athletes LSU runs out on the gymnastics floor is unreal. If you haven't gone to a meet you are truly missing a spectacular display of LSU athletics.

Both of her parents were gymnasts. Her dad was an All-American at LSU and her mom competed in elite gymnastics. This team is very good and can go several rotations deep in case of injuries. Lots of experience while having new young talent. No reason why they shouldn't win the national championship.

There has been an incredible evolution in the program over the last 10 years. D. D. Breaux hired an incredible staff of coaches/ recruiters who have transformed a very good program into one of the nation's elite.

The meets are now happenings in the way we saw basketball take off under Dale Brown and baseball under Skip Bertman. There is an incredible level of athleticism and they deliberately seek out the most challenging routines with high risk/ high reward values which enhances scoring.

The younger gymnasts battle each week in practice to land a spot or two in the rotation where tehy join the upperclass teammates who sport multiple All American honors. What is incredible is ther is simply no great drop off no matter who performs.

It sis just great to see a positive development in LSU sports without all of the drama which always seems to permeate LSU athletics even in the best of times.

The wife has season tickets and loves this shite. Generally, I make one a year with her to show my support and make her happy. The rest of the year she brings friends or one of our friends daughters.

I'll say this.... the difference in the athlete LSU put on the floor and the one Georgia put out there was night and day. Almost looked like something was wrong with the girls from Georgia. Nothing looked like it was being done at the same level of intensity or strength. The height the LSU girls got was significantly higher than georgias girls from top to bottom. Prolly won't go back, but it was an impressive showing. That's when the wife told me they compete all week and whoever does best gets in the rotation with the studs that participate all the time.

I get the scoop regularly if I want it or not with regards to what's going on
