In the practice footage from yesterday this guy is beastly huge, he looks to be probably 260lbs at least.

I don't see anybody being able to stop him on short goal line runs at all. I hope they start to use him more to run the ball in short yard and goal line situations. As long as he knows which man is his responsibility on blocking assignments, the guy he hits will be put on their back, period. This guy is can be a human bulldozer.

He is def bigger then last year. I am actually glad he is getting 1st team reps this spring so when we start the season this year if something happens to JDM we will be in a better situation then we were last year when he went down..

Thats what was said about our last 3 or 4 fullbacks.....then they get stood up at the line by a Bama LBer.

As long as the offensive line blocks somebody, Mouton one on one against any linebacker on a short yard run, should result in a first down or TD virtually every time.

The right FB & TE means absolutely everything for LSU.

I hope he has improved his explosion from last year. it was his biggest problem outside of knowing who to block last year. Even when he did know who to block, he just kind of got in the guys way, never really exploded into anyone and actually moved them.

Like I said, hope he is improving, Not bashing the kid, just pointing out my observation.

Mouton already showed significant improvement on blocking assignments and flat out pancaked a lot of guys in the bowl game against Texas Tech. I watched that game again recently, and he was opening up some big holes for Fournette in that game.

As long as he continues to learn and plays like that against the best teams we play, he is going to end up being a very good FB. At his size no linebacker is going to enjoy trying to take him on either as a runner or a blocker.

that's good. it could definitely have been a case of thinking too much and not being able to play at 100%.

And then has the football stripped away from him.

Imagine if we had an offense that didn't rely so heavily on a fullback

Unless you are coach Les Miles who can confirm that, your opinion is totally irrelevant on this issue.

There is no reason why Mouton cant carry the ball on short yard\goal line situations, other than we have Fournette\Guice of course. Being the case that every other team in the nation also knows that, running Mouton in certain situations is a realistic possibility.

What makes my opinion totally irrelevant but not yours?

The ONLY person Miles is going to want touching the ball in goal line situations is Fournette. He might have 25 TDs this season.

Nothing, when it comes down to it, both of our opinions are totally irrelevant. Then again, couldn't the same be said about any post on these message boards that is related to having an opinion??

That being said, there is no logical reason not to use a 260lb+ back to punch the ball over the goal line or the first down yardage marker in short yard situations.

If everyone in the country knows Fournette is going to get the ball every single time, you have to figure that so does the opposing team, and that wont always work out in our favor. That is just a fact.

With Mouton, Ducre and the return of John David Moore and 3 of the 5 O-line starters, we should be very good (on paper) in the running game. And Upchurch.

There's no question we have one of the best backfields in CFB with LeoFournette, Guice, Williams, Brossette, Moore, Mouton, LanFournette, and Ducre.

The question is, can we keep defenses honest with short and intermediate passing game ???
We have the receivers to do it.....

Nov. 5 will tell all.

Agree 100% there. Even if our running game is dominating every single opponent, at some point in time, be it because a team is able to match up with us well, or has equal caliber athletes on that team, we are going to have to throw the ball to win.

Nothing against lesser quality teams, but if we were playing McNeese State every week, that wouldn't be required, but we face SEC caliber teams every week.

I think we beat Bama this year though, at least I hope to God we do, I'm sick of that team running their mouths constantly, it seems that's what they do best.
