With the new NFL CBA, draft stock doesn't mean as much. No more insanely lucrative contracts are written. Sam Bradford was the last hoorah, for that.

The difference will still be very meaningful. Everyone but Claiborne is making a big mistake. What I hate about that evaluation board is they seem to overestimate EVERYONE that does not go in the top 10 i.e. Landry, Peterson, Russell, probably now Claiborne but B. James, T Faulk, etc. I know I am forgetting many. Not to mention that getting off to a good start can really help your confidence, career, and the next contract.

Arent PP and Jamarcus the only 2 that have left early?

No. I think we lost a few more in the 2007 NC year. RJF, Beckworth? Also, Ridley and someone else in '10.

ETA RJF, Ali was a senior.

yeah this probably just means both guys plan on filing their paper work to gauge where they'd go if they put in.

i thought the deadline for underclassmen to file was weeks ago, though?

highsmith and dougie fresh were both SRs when they left.

Ridley is really the only one Miles has let get away that wasnt a top 10 lock. That's a pretty good track record, but like someone said, things have changed with the draft since Miles got Dorsey and Landry to come back.

If you are projected in the first or top ten picks in the second you leave, no questions asked. You do not risk your body for another year in the SEC.
the LSU offensive lineman that was injured what was his prospects last year?

Currently Sam is listed as the number 1 DE on many draft boards, even as a RS Soph. He would crush the combine, but I think he needs another year. The pro's play a different game.

Brockers could also get in the 1st round. I bet he would have one of the fastest, if not fastest 40 times out of all the defensive tackles. He's rated as a top defensive linemen, not for this years draft, but a great combine could propel him higher in the draft. Brockers could compete in the pro's right now, several years from now he'll be a pro-bowler. Many teams will consider him because he can play in a 4-3 or 3-4, without any drop off. I think he's ready now and he wouldn't go later than the second round, but next year he would be definite 1st round pick. IMO he would be a top10, maybe top5 pick in the 2013 draft

i like sam but really majority of his sacks come from coverage sacks or Mingo chasing the QB into his arms

Couldn't agree more. Protection breaks down, there's Sam waiting to pounce, which is why he needs to come back and work on a Freeney type move.

I don't get the people saying Sam, as a high 2nd at worst, would be stupid to leave. You are stupid to say that. With the rookie pay scale in place, I don't see him making up enough in salary to justify not making millions a year earlier.

It's like the people saying the NBA players were willing to give up a year of salary for an extra 2%. You're not going to give away 20% in order to make 5% more.

Miles got 2 first round picks in Dorsey and Landry to come back and improve their stock even more and it paid off for them, both going in the top 10.

I gotta think Miles told JRuss and PP to go. He was prolly indifferent on Ridley, because of his ceiling and depth we had at RB.

IMO, Miles will push for these guys to come back next year. They could go from early 2nd or late 1st, to early 1st rounders, espesially Big Sam.

I haven't seen him going that high in every draft board. I think there is a chance he could be drafted as high/low as 3rd round, especially if he has a mediocre or bad NC game.

And nothing locks him into the draft until well after that. Reminds me of Zach Lee. Several people wanted to hate on him for signing, but any decent financial adviser would tell him he would be an idiot not to sign. You give up probably at least $1M and risk devastating injury by staying. If you get injured in the pros, at least you have medical and a contract to get you through the lean times.

Apples and oranges that is 2% of billions of dollars or 70 million dollars a year or 700 million over ten years. Or almost 2 Million dollars per roster spot over that time line, Considering that revenues stay equal.

That is a big difference from a chance of making more money.
