There's so much technique required to be a good DL mastered over years. Your post is stupid, albeit, but not as stupid as the 8 upvoting to no downvotes.

Have your first downvote.

I hope he walks on and learns enough to give himself a chance at Pro Day.

And who knows? He could see the field late in blowouts.

Kid has heart and athletic ability for his size. Had he been in the FB program from day one on campus he might be a contributor by this point in his career.

I hope he does what's best for him, and if that includes football, I hope he succeeds.

Bigslick I think your point is a good one. He could be used as a goal line route option.

Does the football team have an open scholarship, to give to him?

Yes, but he is already getting a full ride for basketball so no need to burn one in football. The real question is what were his football accolades? I would imagine that if he was a four or five star recruit that he would be playing football somewhere.

I want bridge to get a shot, but he's got zero top end speed. Shifty feet, but he needs to drop about 25 pounds to play football at the D-1 level.

Like others have said, certainly not at TE in an offense like Canada's that asks a lot of them.

I could see him at DE in a 3-4 (situationally)

My bad....I didn't see he had expressed interest...

Carry on, but I will add this, I don't know if he's as athletic as Jimmy Graham. But he really doesn't need to be, in our system. Basketball players do tend to have decent footwork and soft hands.

But man, this isn't Dll, this is the SEC...

Maybe he could add 15-20 lbs and be an OT just like George Fant with the Seahawks.

and he's not a pure pass catcher like an Antonio Gates type of TE.

And you know this how?

He can't be on scholarship for basketball and play football. He would either need to be on scholarship for football or pay his own way.

He had offers from Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., Arizona, and LSU out of high school. He was the 12th rated tight end in the country.

He's a better athlete than the moreau's of the world but he's been out of football for 4 years... isn't he worth a shot?

I'm not sure it works like that? There are lots of two sport athletes? Do the two sports split the scholarship? The issue is that his basketball eligibility has run out and football hasn't....thus football starts a new calendar year so he would either be a walk-on or get a football scholarship. However, he COULD have played football for free for the past 4 years.

I don't know the answer to your last question, but you cannot be on scholarship for baseball, basketball, track, etc. and play football. Every two-sport athlete you can probably think of at LSU in the last 10 years was on a football scholarship unless/until they decided to stop playing football.

Chad Jones, Jared Mitchell, Trindon Holliday, Chris Jackson (kicker), Xavier Carter, etc.

I love how negative peeps on here just say no. How the hell do you know? Dude is an athlete and is 6'5' and can run soooo yeah I say he's got a shot

Tex Schramm and Gil Brant were generations ahead of their time by building teams (Dallas Cowboys) around "athletes," many of them basketball players with some intelligence, instead of sticking to the conventional route of only considering "football" players as candidates, I think it might make even more sense today because of the burnout kids go through today by over saturation of their sport(s)

After doing some digging, only one sport covers the scholarship. If you play football, football counts the scholarship regardless of the other sport, but only if the player actually competes in football. If Bridgewater only practiced, he could still use a basketball scholarship. Basketball covers everything but football, but doesn't have the "practice but doesn't compete" exception.

What I want to know is why Brad Bridgewater didn't play football. I had freshman math with that cat and he was fricking enormous.

He certainly could, but his lack of aggressiveness is a concern. There have
been other players like him that were too short to be an effective power forward or center at the next level, that transitioned to football. These guys were all extremely aggressive and used there bulk to move guys away from the basket in college. I just don't see BB doing this at all. Despite being much shorter, he should be able to use his bulk to push these guys away from the basket

Did he redshirt in basketball?

I'd love him to redshirt and learn how to play LT.

If not, I guess TE or DE would be best. If he can prove he's a serviceable blocker at TE, I could definitely see the NFL giving him a shot in free agency as a LT development project.

He's got the absolute perfect size and skill-set for LT. If he adds 20 lbs with his height and athleticism. He really missed his calling IMO.
