Having been selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, Bregman landed at Houston's William P. Hobby Airport on Wednesday and said he's agreed to a deal with the Houston Astros, fulfilling his dream and blazing a path his mother saw coming from an early age.

quote:

"It was the best thing that ever happened to me, going to school," Bregman said. "The three years at LSU were the most fun three years of my life. Just to be able to say I did it and found a way to grind through those three years and get drafted. It's just the beginning now -- ready to get to work."

Congrats Alex! Cant wait to see you parking balls in the Crawford Boxes.

Where you getting those numbers? That's the slot value. No way he signs for full value.

I expect it to be around $6MM to make room for Daz.

If he gets 7.4 the astros would have made one of the worst draft deals ever, that's the slot value not how much he is getting.

He's a junior and number 2 overall. He won't be off by much. Definitely over 7.

Zero players have signed for north of 7 million in the last four drafts.

baseball draft is about strategy, it doesn't really matter where you get picked it's who picks you. Correa went #1 out of highschool and got 4.5 mill. The Astros drafted the #5 prospect in the draft at pick 37 and are going to sign him for 4 mill. They also drafted another highschool player they think they can sign so they have to save atleas 1 mill on Breg, don't be suprises if he gets 6 mill or less.

They have over 17 mill for he first 10 rounds and have already saved almost 700k on other signees. He's going over 7 I just know it.

The Astros would have drafted someone else if his demands would be at $7MM at #2. They wanted to save money to pick up Daz later in the draft.

It'll be for around $6 - $6.2MM. Maybe as low as $5.9.

Nah man Aiken would've gotten around 6.5 mill and he is a highschool pitcher picked 1.1 who was the top prospect in the draft. Breg was ranked 4. I love Breg and want him to get paid but I'm also an astros fan and I know and hope he doesn't get anywhere near 7 mill.

They need to save about $2MM for Daz - and he's already sent out the message that he'll be signing soon.

Breg will not go for $7... much less, over.

That's the way the Astros work their drafts -- save money on the early picks, and grab the "signability issue" high school kids in the early second round -- use the savings to get the kid to go Pro instead of college.

The #3 pick slot value was 6.3. So the Astros could have offered him anything up to 6.3 and then if he turned it down he would be losing money.

Only if his agent felt that the Rockies would be willing to pay full slot for him. They paid Brenden Rodgers for $700K under slot.

There were too many options for picks 2 - 5, all players graded out pretty evenly. So no guarantee he would've gone at #3. Agents know this. Look at how far Mark Appel fell his Junior year. Sure, it worked out for him a year later, and I doubt Bregman would've dropped to 8. But the point is valid - -most players agree to a $-value before their name is called.
