BRCC appoints Paul Mainieri as "special advisor" to its head baseball coach

BATON ROUGE - In an announcement Wednesday, Baton Rouge Community College said it would be appointing former LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri as the special advisor to its head baseball team.
Mainieri will work closely with the head coach to provide guidance and mentorship to the team.
"We are beyond thrilled to welcome Coach Mainieri," said Brock Kantrow, Head of Athletics at Baton Rouge Community College. “He has been an integral part of baseball in Baton Rouge for years, and he will certainly have a lasting impact on our coaches and student-athletes.”

It seems like BRCC is looking to improve their athletic programs and need some guys with visibility and experience to help them raise funds and grease wheels.
There are 5 baseball playing JUCOs in Louisiana. We really only recruit two of them. BRCC building itself up to the level of Delgado and LSUE would be good for LSU.

I'm sure Mainieri misses being involved in baseball, but probably doesn't want to be a fulltime coach. I hope the physical issues with his neck have improved significantly, and he can enjoy being involved in the sport, absent the daily grind.

BRCC got off to a good start and had one of the best initial seasons in NJCAA history. A few players on that team were drafted and a couple made 40 man rosters and and a MLB appearance.
It could be a gold mine with the right support in place. The second season could have been strong but the Chancellor at that point blew it up and the program went backwards for quite a few years.
I hope they turn it around and make it a good baseball school. LSUE is an absolute power and has set the standard.
