If we go ahead and hire Canada today, wouldn't it seem that Harris would be the best candidate to run the offense next year? I always thought we were trying to fit a square peg in a round hole with him. He seemed to throw better out of the pocket, and with Harris, we could really spread the field but make opposing defenses have to worry about his running ability. Any chance he stays and tries to win back his job?

Also, I would think Lindsay Scott would be pretty excited about this development.

I imagine we'll have an open QB competition with a new OC and everyone starting from scratch learning the scheme.

I liked what I saw out of Etling and I'm a little hesitant to put Harris back in, but I'm open to letting things play out in the spring.

I don't know...

If Harris made me feel better about his ability to complete a 5-yard pass on a regular basis I might agree with you.

frick, stop this shite. Pocket presence is everything, including on knowing when and where to run.

Harris is not a better runner than etling. And he can't throw a 5 us out on time/target. Forget progressing to a second read.

Our offense wont look much different under Canada than it did under Esminger. Its not much of a spread offense

^^yep
If you watch Pitt's film this year - Etling is a much better passer than Peterman and would give them more throwing opportunities
Etling would do fine for a year and then Lindsey Scott or Myles Brennan would go great also

No, I said it on here before, Brandon can't handle the magnitude of the game and control his nerves. He has a lot of talent but his nerves get in the way of his technique and performance. Don't take this as I'm just trying to bash him, just making an honest assessment , I pulled for Brandon and he had his chance.

Harris's biggest problem was his accuracy. He could not hit wide open receivers much less throw the ball into tight spaces. He had a nice long pass but he struggled with the routine throws.

He will magically become unpooh, and not throw to the other team when someone is remotely close to him??? Get real, and I bet $100 that if I go back in you post history there is a post from you calling for him to be benched and DE to go in..

Only if Canada can fix Brandon's horrible mechanics in 1 offseason.

I root for Brandon Harris, but his problems go far beyond scheme: Doesn't set his feet or square his shoulders when he throws, his first instinct is to escape(which breaks down the play) instead of moving around in the pocket to let the play develop, trouble with touch passes, etc

It wouldn't hurt to have an open competition in the new system to see who rises, but I think Etling will at least start the season.

Accuracy is still a big thing for the QB position.

I may eat my words but I think Harris is done at LSU. I think he was overrated. His inaccuracy has little to do with coaching. That's on him. His lack of pocket presence, ability to make reads is all on him. That's not getting fixed.

Agree, the only way he makes sense here now is if we hire Helfric (which I really hope we do not) and go to a true spread scheme. Otherwise, he needs to move on to a school that will put him in a spread scheme.

Hard to say, when he does run, he runs better. Etling is better at knowing when it is time to tuck it and run.
