Bottom Line....Players have to execute

Right now, we don't have one single player that can take over a game. Not one single player. Mickey is good, but he can't take over a game. Coaching can only take you so far. You have to execute. Mickey throwing the ball out of bounds was a huge momentum swing. You just can't do that in clutch situations.

Missed a lot of open shots.

The expectation is high because many think Mickey and Martin are two NBA ready players, they are not.

and Jones needs to learn how to coach.
A player missing a basket isn't on coaching. A player not getting a rebound which leads to points for the other team isn't on coaching.
But not getting in players faces for forcing bad shots, is on coaching. For letting a team run and take the lead without using your own timeout is on coaching. Having no good plays out of a timeout is on coaching.
Jones is one of those coaches who things he can win with talent, and just can't coach. I had a coach like this in high school, when the talent dries up the team will completely fall apart. I personally rather a coach who knows how to coach Xs and Os and can make average talent into good talent. Isntead of a coach who looks pretty on the bench brings in all star players but always underachieves with those players.

Execution is a byproduct of coaching...or lack thereof.

Neither are ready for the NBA. Mickey especially. He can't create his own shot most of the time and also seems to be hiding when the game is on the line. He's not ready for the league.

Who was the NFL coach that was asked about player execution and answered "I'm in favor of it"?
But this game has plenty of blame to be spread. You can point at Mickey and Martin both not showing up, but it seemed like that was overcome, and we had the game in hand.
Jones needs to do more coaching in-game. You CAN'T just sit by and watch the other team make a run, and not even bother to call TO. Well, you can if you're Calipari and want to make it a teaching moment, but Jones isn't in the same position. He's still fighting for his first tourney berth here, not maneuvering for an overall #1 seed like Cal.
Another thing about Jones and the lack of TOs called- even the announcers commented that Bridgewater was tearing up A&M down low. Since I doubt Bridge was a pre-game focus, maybe when the game is tight, a good coach will call plays that are to his advantage... in this case call the TO in A&M's run, and feed Bridgewater down low a couple possessions? If A&M pulls their D off Mickey to stop Bridge, great: make the pass to Mickey.
The players are too tight at the end in close games, but this game should never have gotten there.
