Winning out would very possibly put LSU in the playoffs and certainly would win them a conference title. O has learned a lot since OM....especially at USC. I bet USC wishes they had hired him now.

Jimbo was not great at LSU in his job...
He got lucky w Jameis at FL St. ...
not an elite coach.
Besides, give me a coach who still needs to prove stuff and loves LSU .. that's energy

Why would there be riots? Not all LSU fans are coonasses therefore the Cajun and dialect mean nothing. Coach O is still a DL coach that failed to show he was capable of running a program on his own. People say he has learned from past mistakes. How do you know? Just because he said so in an interview? Succeeding as an interim coach in no way correlates to being able to successfully run a P5 program.

And as I've said before, LSU didn't spend $10 million to have a DL coach as the number one candidate. Does O have a chance? Yes, if the right people decline the job it may fall back to him.

I bet CEO would not really press for elite money on the initial contract...I think that he's willing to let his Ws speak for themselves...then ask for the $$$ after 2-3 years of 10+Wins seasons...to some of us, money is secondary after winning while having a lifelong dream come true...jmho

If money has a say in the hire it's doomed from the start. Just like hiring someone simply because they're a Cajun. That's makes zero difference. Getting the best available whoever that may be is all that matters.

I watched Booger in that panel discussion today and this is all I heard him say:

Quote
"I would love Ed Orgeron to be the next Head Coach at LSU, but {admin/fans} want a coach who is a quarterback whisperer."

Booger's statement was speaking more to the 'atmosphere' swirling around about who should be the next HC. Booger did not emphatically say that O is not going to be the next HC...I can understand how, what he did say could be misconstrued though.

Ya know, that's just what I like about Coach O...you never have to guess what exactly he means...even when he's speaking to the evil twin...lol

No…because of the excellent job he has done at both USC and LSU so for. Indeed, actions speak louder than words.

Meanwhile, that’s how people learn, by making mistakes and then learning from their mistakes. O’s actions since Ole Miss indicate that he has learned all those valuable lessons well. Indeed, even Nick Saban struggled early on in his coaching career. He wasn’t always the premier coach he is today.

Our options, nonetheless, appear to be coach O, Jimbo Fisher, and Herman. If coach O wins out, he surely will be awarded the head-coaching job. He might even get it with one lost too.

Nonetheless, if he loses one badly or two closely, then Jimbo Fisher, who is a proven head coach with a national championship under his belt should be offered the job. There used to be a rumor floating around that LSU was his dream job, but I don’t know if it is true. I also heard everything that was said last year after the administration gave Miles a vote of confidence at the last moment. In any event, if we have to go after another coach, we should first see if we could steal Jimbo Fisher away from Florida State, and it will be very expensive to do so, but he is well worth it.

Coach Herman, on the other hand, is virtually completely unproven, as he has been a head coach for only a year and a half at a second tier university with another coach’s players.

Thus, hiring Herman would be a very big gamble at best, as he would represent a very big risk. It may turn out that he may morph into an excellent head coach, or it may turn out that he is just another pretender. There is just no way to know either way at this time because he is too unproven.

Hence, I believe that Alleva would offer him only the amount of money commensurate with his level of experience, which would be less money that coach O would be offered.

If he were willing to take the job for an opportunity to get the head-coaching job at a premier SEC school and one of the most coveted coaching jobs in the country, then if I were Alleva I would award him the job.

However, if he gets greedy and demands more money, then if I were Alleva I would tell him to go take a hike. If he is smart, he will take the job and then work hard like everybody else to increase his salary.

LSU isn’t spending that money. It’s not costing LSU anything. Give me a break. Meanwhile, most were happy with Les Miles who was an offensive line coach before becoming a head coach.

Wherever that money comes from other than the portion paid by LSU won't be for a coach that hasn't proven the ability to run his own program. O hasn't proven anything. He has been an interim coach at schools that had someone else lay the framework. The only way O is offered is if LSU strikes out on the top candidates.

And yes, LSU pays a portion of the coaches salary as well as Les Miles was the HC of his own program prior to LSU.

McFarland recently said "You cut me from the Rooter to the Tooter and I am all Purple and Gold. I have to try and maintain some appearance of impartiality in my job. I was part of the class that started the turnaround at LSU from 95-98 and I will be damned if I not going to try and fix the problem."

In this same segment he also said LSU is looking for a long-term solution and that football is in the Entertainment business. Alleva has to pay off a 100 million stadium expansion and keep the Boosters donating with championships, top recruits. Everyone talks about how hard it is to get people to stay and watch the games. With Tom Herman you would have people fighting over tickets. Plus Saban takes lessons from Herman. Hire Herman and Saban is old news.

Booger's opinion is click bait. He has no inside information. It's called guessing that passes as coach hiring analysis.

Makes for good campfire talk.

He and Spears have been advising Alleva for 2 yrs. He is sincere and not clickbait.

I don't think it's as simple as winning out. It really depends on who's available and willing. I like O, but the fact is his Ole Miss debacle is real a huge deal. His ability to build a program is in serious doubt by anyone that isn't blinded by his heritage. If he wasn't the interim his name would likely never be mentioned.

None of that money comes from LSU. It's paid on behalf of LSU.

So far coach O has demonstrated that he is an excellent coach. Not to mention that Coach O has far more experience coaching at the head spot in top tier programs relative to Herman, who has never been at the head spot at a top tier program. Coach O has also demonstrated that he learns very well from previous experience.

Nonetheless, if Coach O wins out, the job is his. If he loses one game badly or loses two games closely, then LSU should target Jimbo Fisher and see if they can entice him away from Florida State.

If Jimbo passes, then we should go after Herman, but we should only offer him the money commensurate with his level of experience and no more. Which would necessarily be less money that LSU would be willing to pay coach O. If he accepts because he wants an opportunity to coach in the elite SEC at one of the most coveted coaching jobs in the country, then welcome him aboard. On the other hand, if he wants us to join a bidding war for an unproven coach, then he should be told to go take a hike and coach O should be given the job.

However, if coach O loses three games, then it's simple he doesn't qualify for the job and we look elsewhere for a new head coach. Herman is far from being the only coach out there that is available. There are plenty of other good coaches out there who would jump at the opportunity to coach at LSU.

Even if he wins out. Really??

This dude is out of touch...

I also want an offensive minded coach but if CEO runs the table, he deserves a sincere consideration to be the permanent head coach with a short term 2 year contract and more time to prove himself. And no, he doesn't have to beat Bama convincingly. He just needs to beat them!
