Say what you want about Ole grass eater, but he recruited well along the offensive and defensive line. For that matter, he recruited well everywhere except QB. I was as critical as anyone about the way Les Miles coached LSU, but now I miss lining up, blowing the other team off the ball, and running the ball between the tackles. That play style won LSU a ton of games.

Les Miles played not to lose games. His philosophy appeared to be heavy run game, good defense, and no mistakes (although he made his fair share). For the most part, under LM, LSU won the games they should have. Toward the end of his tenure, they started slipping, but Les Miles fielded some really powerful football teams.

I think BK's coaching philosophy is similar to Miles. He promotes strong offensive line play, a heavy run game, and stout defense. I think the major difference between LM and BK is that BK allows his offensive coordinator to coach the offense. Something LM refused to do. Which resulted in LM offenses being predictable.

When you have superior talent, scheme can be less important because your players can win their 1 on 1 battles. So playing conservatively, running the ball a lot and limiting mistakes, is a solid gameplan. This is part of the reason LM had such a stellar OOC record. I think BK will coach LSU to play disciplined football and let the talent gap win some games.

I say all of that to say this...

LSU will not lose to FSU, Ole Miss, Moo State, Tennessee, or Auburn.

I think Napiers inexperience will cost UF this year. LSU wins.

Arky will be a tough game, and LSU will need to play mistake free football to beat them. This game is a toss up to me.

Alabama and TAMU have equal to, or better, talent than LSU. These games will be determined by scheme. To say LSU has no shot in either of these games would be blasphemous. I'll say this, Jimbo is a loser and BK could easily outcoach him, prolly will, but LSU might have depth issues in this game. Beating Nicky will be a tall order.

Bottom line, I think 9-3 is the floor for this team. With a bowl win, LSU could finish with a double digit win season. I wouldn't be shocked if LSU beats Arky or TAMU.

I am a huge BK fan but 9 wins is not the floor.

I don't disagree with really anything you said.

Les Miles and Ed O were more of a reflection of the old AD than those two individually.

Ed O did not deserve or earn the opportunity to be the HC at LSU. 2019 was magical because of Joe Burrow. Without Joe Burrow, I think Ed O would have been gone sooner than he was.

He should have been gone after losing to Troy.

I wish BK was ten years younger, but if I was a betting man, i'd bet he wins at least one NC with LSU over the next ten years.

I don't really get the Jimbo hate. He won a NC at FSU and has (despite buying it) the #1 recruiting class of all time, at A&M.

SEC west is the toughest division in the toughest conference in all of College Football. it's 24/7 365. I'm curious to see if BK gets burnt out in the next three to four years.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

I read last night that NIL deals are not getting paid out at certain schools. This will be a big big deal as time goes on.

I agree with you bud, but you are way too optimistic for a first season team/coach chemistry. I'd say that they will drop 4 games. These would be Bama, Arky, Florida & OM. TAMU always struggles playing us.

Miles recruited terribly for the most part along the OL.

We were usually getting 3* projects that never panned out which killed us when we played a good DL.

I can't help but think that part of BK's track record is based on recruiting the Midwest. He didn't have the horses that he will have in the South. I expect the offense to be much more open than what we saw at ND. The Les Miles comparison is just false. At Notre Dame, Kelly averaged about 100 yards per game more than Les did at LSU.

Kelly wouldn't have gotten shut out on 1/9/12.

Also didn't compete against the horses he will in the south. Is Navy the same / better / worse than Mississippi State? Is Georgia Tech better / same / worse than Ole Miss?

Mostly agree.

Miles was extremely successful at LSU. Call me when BK gets to a national championship game with Jordan Jefferson.

Last 4 seasons SOS comparison:
2021: LSU 7 ND 43
2020: LSU 27 ND 57
2019: LSU 3 ND 37
2018: LSU 5 ND 31

It's a lot harder to win at LSU. I hope you're right about Kelly, but let's pump the brakes.

Well, BK has beaten LSU twice so that has to count for something, no?

How hard is it to recruit at LSU. Honestly?? Was he really that good? Seems like every coach to come through here could/can “recruit”.

Any national championship team would have been nothing without their star QB so why the hell do you morons say this shite? We would have been a completely different team without much of our players and coaches. You saw that in 2020. Ed O brought that national title to LSU whether you like it or not. He got Burrow here, he closed on him, he got him to believe in him. You saw what he thought of and still thinks of coach O in his speech.

Why do y’all continuously try to dismiss what the man did here? It’s really absurd. From 2016-2019 Ed O was one of LSUs best coaches ever to coach here in that 3.5 year stretch. He’s gone now, we have the better coach no doubt but that doesn’t mean coach O wasn’t a good coach at LSU, he was, period and that’s ok.

No he didn't. Our offensive lines were typically made up of guys who went undrafted. It was the only position group on the team, besides QB, about which that could be said.

We had T Bob Hebert starting games for us. The only time I remember Les had offensive lines that were a strong point were those he inherited from Saban.

He had a lot of years with good running games. But that was obviously attributable to other things, because the NFL didn't covet very many of our linemen. In my opinion, our good running games were attributable to three things: excellent running backs, an excellent defense that kept our offense on the field, and excellent offensive line coaching.

2013 BCS National Championship:

quote:

In the aftermath of an Alabama 42 to 14 victory (with the score being 35 to 0 at one point in the game)

The only reason ND scored was because Bama was beating them so badly that they put in their scrubs. Bama was never up more than two scores on LSU until, with about six minutes left, our last drive stalled. There was never a time Bama could put in scrubs without risking the game.

The point is that, except for the southern teams, he would have won at least one national championship. Against teams that had the same access to talent, he dominated. And the SEC teams have the same access to talent as Kelly has.

Good analysis, think your spot on with everything. Do believe LSU will give Bama the toughest game for them, going down to the final 5 minutes but if Tigers play there A game & Bama doesn't could be tides only loss of the yr. Beating AnM @ college Station is tough, ask Joe Burreaux.

AT ND maybe, but the game has changed. BK came here to get elite athletes. Run run pass punt play defense is dead and thank god because it nearly killed me.
