Bipolar fan base

This almost firing debacle has confused the hell out of me. I've never seen a fan base that absolutely hates everything a coach does, but some how loves the fact that we are keeping him.
After hearing that Aleva said LSU was retaining Miles, I thought there would be riots in the streets and people would be going nuts, but somehow it turned into a hug and support fest. What gives?

That most LSU fans are soft sensitive pussies that no longer care about championships.. it's ok to have 3-4 losses a year as long as we have good ole Les.
