this guy is as impressive as he is enjoyable as a play by play analyst. i consider myself pretty well versed in the game of baseball, but I have not watched a game that he has called to date, where I did not learn at least 2-3 new nuances of the game.
really makes the game that much more enjoyable to watch!

He kind of reminds me of Ron Jaworski in that he explains things in a way that the average fan can understand and doesn't get so technical that goes over your head. I think both explain things very naturally and nothing is forced. The off topic side stories are always interesting as well. Ben is a phenomenal TV personality.

In game thread a few weeks ago, someone asked who is this asshat talking about pitches and grips on the baseball to throw said pitches. Had to laugh.

Do you watch the catcher to see how well the pitcher is doing?

Him trying to call every pitch and then getting half of them wrong does get kind of annoying.

Its not an exact science. Ben does a really good job explaining sequence pitching. He may be the best color guy in college baseball.

Agreed. Sometimes he won't shut up. He needs to cut his discourse about 30%.

i think he is calling what pitch the pitcher SHOULD pitch. not what he eventually does. big difference; think about it.

the man was a professional pitcher for years; he was in every situation these guys face. i trust his judgement (altho everyone makes mistakes).

To be able to overcome all those years with Lynn Rollins and keep his wits about him is a feat in itself.
