I remember Weylin Guidry was good!

Can Matty Ott be considered now? What he has done this year is amazing.

The closer for Georgia last year was lights out.
Edit...Sorry misread your post. Ott is as good as we've had in Baton Rouge.

I think you mean Trey Hodges?

Rick Greene set the bar. Matty Ice will eventually surpass it.

it was hodges, and Rick Greene was the best so far.

Rick Greene was our best closer. He is the single season (14) and career (29) saves leader. Ott may break the single season this year.

I think you have to throw Bradford and Coleman on that list even though they were not traditional 1 inning closers. More of a "hydrid" reliever/starter, but saw significant relief action in pressure situations.

LSU never played UCLA in the CWS.
Guedry was a stud during the regular season who absolutely bombed during the post season. He was worthless.

Rick Greene easily at the top, some other good ones were Chris Demouy, Eric Berthelot, Adrian Antonini, Dan Guillory, Jason Determann, and this one is a joke, but Shane Youman, dude was money!

Who was the closer when Byrd pitched for LSU?

quote:Antonini was great to watch pitch. He was all over the mound. I agree with Greene, but if Ott stays in the closer role another year or two, he will take the prize.

I doubt this happens.

I was thinking about Chris. I loved when he would get the call from the bullpen and the emphasis the PA announcer woul put on his last name. And the crowd would follow suit-- "Demoooouy"

I'll edit my comment to say he was worthless in the CWS. He did ok in the regionals.
For some reason he couldn't throw strikes.
As for Ott, the tighter the situation gets the better he pitches.
2 of the 3 hits he gave up last night were off the bat handle.

I dont know if he was the best, but Hunter Gomez had some serious moxie and I loved when he would go into a game. Plus the rubber arm was nice to have
