Josh Gray
Tim Quarterman
Keith Hornsby
Jalyn Patterson
Brandon Sampson
Antonio Blakeney

and you can even count Simmons as a "Point forward"

You get a great blend of shooting ability, slashing ability, explosiveness and basketball IQ mixed in there

With no true power forwards or a true center....I truly hope we can get buy with great guard play this year.

Did Craig Victor quit the team?

Do you even Craig Victor? He's the definition of a true PF. I'd expect Aaron Epps and Elbert Robinson to make massive leaps forward after battling through injuries and the adjusting to the pace of the college game last year.

It's got to be up there. Hoping they can figure out a good small lineup that can run opposing teams to death. A lineup of Quarterman, Blakeney, Hornsby, Simmons, and Victor could do some damage in the Tournament. Really is a shame that we couldn't have kept one of the M's. Hopefully we get a big leap from one of the PF's on the roster.

Craig Victor is the definition of a PF.

And honestly, Elbert Robinson is the definition of a Center... Just have to make sure he is in shape for next year.

Victor is 6'8" with a 6'9" wingspan. not exactly the prototype, but he'll do

Robinson is totally unproven and though I'm excited about Victor, realistically we have no proven big men. Let's be honest. I'm hopeful this year will result in a deep run in the tourney however we need depth down low.

I think our perimeter shooting will be as good as anyone nationally, particularly with the addition of Blakeney and Sampson.

However, we will need someone to consistently penetrate the lane and get to the basket in order for our backcourt to bear such a label. Quarterman and Blakeney are certainly capable given their size, while Gray and Patterson have the quickness to provide some dribble-drive penetration.

The problem is that someone has to rebound and defend the block. For as good as Simmons looks to be, his game is more outside than inside. He just doesn't seem to be the rebounder that Mickey/Martin were and the rim protector that Mickey was. Victor would be almost all alone inside.

Aside from that, with good spacing and movement, the line up you listed should be very good offensively. Jones and Co. should be watching film of Hoiberg's Iowa St. teams over and over again because that's the kind of personnel LSU will have next year.

Heartbreaking! I'm not one to use hyperbole, but with Mickey on next year's team, LSU would have been a legitimate Final Four contender. He would have filled the one void next year's team has.

I wouldn't go that far. Gray and TQ are inconsistent outside shooters at best (though TQ really improved from year one). Sampson and Blakeney come with a lot of hype, but until they knock down shots on the college level, I can't EXPECT them to be great perimeter shooters. Hornsby and Patterson are really your only reliable shooters at this point. With their feet set both are as good as anyone in the SEC. People overlook him with the Freshman guards coming in, but Patterson showed last year that he can and is not afraid to hit huge outside shots for this team

A variant on the swingman -

quote:

backcourt

...the whole term describes a player that is notched between a 1 and a 3, but not a true shooting guard (2) - to suggest he plays in the backcourt is not inaccurate - perhaps incomplete, but not inaccurate.

I'm not sure I am comfortably with an LSU basketball team that has more than 7 serviceable players on it and a full compliment of scholarship players. I think we should get Brady to run a few off.

We certainly don't have any proven big men, but we have potential guys for sure. Coaches have all continued to gawk over the skills of Aaron Epps also. Easy to forget him because his limited PT due to injury, but I'm hopeful he puts it all together and can play stretch 4 and guard some PF's.

It is going to be interesting for sure to see what roles the individual players establish.

First off, Craig Victor.

Second, did you watch what the Warriors did to the Cavs? That's how we are gonna play and be successful next year.
