That would be Todd Walker....
Led the Tigers in batting average (.400), runs (72), hits (100), RBI (76), doubles (21), triples (3), homers (12) and slugging percentage (.652) ... also rated first in the SEC in RBI, runs and total bases (163) ... ranked third in the league in batting average and doubles ... was the only freshman named to the first or second all-conference teams ... set an LSU mark for assists with 201 ... had a .961 fielding percentage with 10 errors in 306 chances ... the Tigers' clean-up hitter, he was also second on the squad with 18 steals ... hit a team-high .406 (39-for-96) in SEC regular-season games with four homers and 22 RBI ... was the only player to start all 66 of LSU's games ... had 34 multiple-hit and 20 multiple-RBI games ...

As much as I loved TW I give the edge to Bregman.

Crazy to think Bregman is hitting those numbers with these limp bats.

I've thought all along that Todd Walker's freshman year could not be topped, but I'm starting to think otherwise. Walker has the upperhand in RBI's and home runs, but Bregman is doing very well in those categories. The other categories will end up as a toss up, or as an advantage to Bregman.
But where Bregman seperates himself is on defense. I don't care what Walker's "official stats" show, Bregman is twice the defensive player that Walker was. While Todd Walker worked hard to improve his defensive game, he was always simply a pure hitter. Walker didn't have great range to get to balls so therefore he had less chances to make errors. Bregman covers a ton of ground at short, plus he has to make harder plays at shortstop than Walker did at second base.
I'm open for debate, but in my opinion, and apparently Ben McDonald's, Alex Bregman is having the best freshman season by a LSU player ever.

Todd Walker 1992 Freshman Season - 400/519/652/1171. 18/24 SB's (75%) 36 XBH in 66 games
Alex Bregman 2013 Freshman Season - 412/460/638/1098. 11/12 SB's (92%) 23 XBH (projects to 36 xbh in 66 games)
Raph Rhymes 2012 Season (I know he wasnt a freshman, but for comparison) - 431/489/530/1019. 2/6 SB's. 15 XBH in 61 games.
I know Todd Walker is an LSU legend, but considering the vast differences in era's in which he and Bregman played and that the pitching in that era compared to this era is let's just say, subpar, Bregman is the clear cut "BEST FRESHMAN IN LSU BASEBALL HISTORY". Also consider the HUGEEEE differences in the bats of the 90's and the bats of today. Finally, offense is only one side of the ball in baseball, and that Bregman plays shortstop; the most important defensive position, at an extremely elite level, he's hands down the best freshman at LSU ever. He's slugging 638 as a SS. That's incredible.
