why don't you explain to us the situation that led to the police having probable cause for a search warrant of Jefferson's home but not probable cause to arrest him?

The cops may have probable cause to arrest him for battery but are trying to determine who gets the more severe charge. Thus, they have PC to search the home. Apparently, they DID have the PC to search the house because a judge signed the warrant.

Bottom line they are giving Jefferson extra scrutiny as a suspect because of his celebrity status, and that is flat out wrong.

It's the double edged sword of celebrity. All cases with famous people draw media attention. This means the cops have to go all out to resolve the case to its conclusion. I don't think JJ is being unfairly framed or targeted as a guilty subject; it's just that it's not being swept under the rug the way a random case would be.

You can't really expect the police to hold a press conference and said, "Listen, we don't really pursue 2nd degree battery investigations that aggressively on typical suspects, so we're going to go ahead and let this one go, too."

You know how they determine if it was them? Through an investigation. One that everyone is dead set against happening.

Btw, do you really think the players weren't involved? Are your P and G glasses that thick?

#1 You're a CornDog.

#2 Some of you have him convicted with no proof.

#3 Find one post where I don't want justice served by the guilty, just one.

#4 Of course players were involved, are you that dense?

#5 I own no P&G glasses, but I do root for LSU, and don't want any players unjustly accused or arrested for a crime they didnt commit.

Now go eat yourself.

Why would they search his house, and his house alone, if the witnesses had not named him as the more serious offender?

Sadly, that is not always the case.

I'm not asking them to hold a press conference to announce that they are treating Jefferson fairly. I'd settle for them just treating him fairly. And by "fairly", I do indeed mean treating cases where he is the suspect with whatever professionalism and effort (or lack thereof) they would treat similar cases with non-celebrity suspects. I'm not suggesting it will ever happen that way, but that's simply not relevant. Just like with 2nd degree batteries in bar fights, the fact it happens all the time doesn't make it right any of the time.

Cops are in a no-win situation.

If they go full force and wrap it up as quickly as possible, they're seen as persecuting Jefferson.

If they take their time and keep Jefferson on the hot seat for a couple of months, they're seen as being on the Tiger bandwagon/payroll.

Better to turn every stone now instead of keeping Jefferson on pins and needles until mid-October.

Not me. I just don't think the investigation should be dropped because a) "this shite happens all the time" b) BRPD needs to go "fight real crime" or c) we need to beat Oregon. If any players were involved and criminally liable, they need to pay the price. If not, let them go. But the investigation needs to happen. We both agree on that.

We agree on this as well.

I don't either. You seem convinced that any investigation may result in players being unjustly accused or arrested.

If you are telling the truth, which I highly doubt, you should be fired. This charge could have a 5 year sentence. Evidence beyond a reasonable doubt is needed. Get a life and a real job.

i dont know if this gut is right about being on force 14 years, but he is right about this being crazy. how many murders a weekend are happening in b r each week? and you are taking the time to bag each peace of cloathing in its own bag. i got jumped by 10 people in b r one night and as far as the investigation went was talking to people that was still at the scene. this is crazy

I think it's the opposite. By dragging it on and having a new press conference everyday it looks like they're persecuting him.

I just thought that they looked silly trying to find a place in the SUV to fit the rest of the bags. They walk out and you think, "yeah, that looks like shoes. JJ must have about 20 pair there". then they open the door and there's a mountain of bags already in there and they're walking around the car trying to fit them in. Pitiful.

Ur right. All these murders, stabbings has the people in BR losing confidence. This is a public way for the PD for this clown White to have a voice and to look like a rock star. Never in a million years when I worked down there would my Chief be on tv about a crime that didn't involve a dead body or a crime against a child. It would have been handled by someone like Stone.

People in BR are scared, they don't feel safe anymore.

I feel perfectly safe. I guess from Dallas you get a different view. I feel no less safe now than I did 20 years ago.

When I went to LSU, I lived off of Brightside Manor... I had my car broken into twice, and my apartment broken into once. When my car was broken into, the cops would not even come to the complex, I had to go the police station to file a report. They were of no help, during any of the three of times. This is a witch hunt!!! There are bar fights every single night in Baton Rouge. They don't get search warrants and DNA from those involved.

If SEC referees were involved with the investigation, then there would be real cause for worry.

Everyone should be treated equally under the law.
If JJ is guilty with no priors do you really think he would get jail time for a bar fight? Cops do the investigating but the DA has to bring the charges and decide probabilty of getting a conviction. Seems doubtful to me but if they have a smoking gun still going to plea bargin it down to simple battery for a first time offender. So all this really about whether the kid gets his football career ruined or not. No way anybody going to give him five years in prison for this.
If this had happened in Feb it would be on the news for a day or two and we would move on to more important stuff

If they weren't football players but some other random dudes, I wonder if you'd give a frick about a felony battery suspect getting a DNA swab and his house searched.

I wonder if the BRPD would. I think that's what everyone is trying to say.
