Basketball teams' current RPI

tPear has the men's team #1.

Alabama is #1 right now on the RPI page on warren nolan
LSU is #2
Somehow Oakland is #3 and Alabama's win over them is enough to have them at #1 despite a loss.

RPI is beyond busted this early on in a season..as you might tell by Oakland being #3 
Just not enough data yet to go on.
Look at other stats like kenpom or torvik, much better. Kenpom retains a preseason element that gets weaker as the season goes along to smooth things out so you dont get crazy computer rankings like RPI/NET only a few weeks into a season.

The RPI is WHOLLY irrelevant now. As in it is not even considered as part of the tournament selection criteria.

Lack of data causing outliers to have big significance. This is why NET doesnt officially come out till a ways from now. Computer ratings are all going to look wonky until they get enough data in them.

The obnoxious part is how confidently they act like they know what they’re talking about when clearly they don’t. Every year our NET rankings have been pretty generous thanks to scheduling. And look at our ranking now that we have a good record to go with it.

I don’t agree with that. The AP poll still plays a big role in influencing the committee. A team who is ranked all season will always get a higher seed over a team who is just occasionally ranked even if their NET, SOS and everything else is very similar. Humans still pick the NCAA tournament seeds.
