New coach with added talent. I expect to be in the tourney. The head coach believes so then so do I.

Basically, one has to be among the 45th-50th best team in the country to get in depending on how the automatic bids play out etc.

Can we be that? I'm not sure because I don't think we can adequately judge the talent coming back from last years squad because the leadership issues skewed the ability to do so IMHO.

But I like what I've seen to this point. We might be able to crack that number if some of the guys coming in are quality and the guys coming back are better than what they appeared to be last year (which I think is the case).

Way too early for accurate speculation. We don't know the final roster.

We will be significantly better than last year. That's as far as I'll go at this point.

Expectation for next season is the NCAA Tournament. I think at the very least we should be a bubble team that makes the NIT field.

People don't realize how big of an impact a good coach can have in college basketball. We have some good talent on the roster, especially after the new additions Wade has made. If this team plays with the effort and determination that I expect, there's no reason they shouldn't at least be .500 in SEC play.

Johnny Jones was that bad. It'll show next season.

Just a little reminder, it's really not.

It's tough, sure. But the bubble has been incredibly weak the last 2-3 seasons. The last few teams that are at-large selections really don't differentiate too much from the 2 and 3 seeds in the NIT.

The 4 added at-large spots really only diluted the field with a few more unspectacular teams. There's no reason LSU can't compete to be one of those teams in that position next year.

The big difference here is goals vs expectations.

We have the team to 100% have an attainable goal of making the NCAA Tournament.

I don't know if I would "expect" that but it is a goal that isn't out of reach.

I probably expect a near .500 SEC record and 18-20 wins. Which probably isnt good enough to make the tournament, but I think they are looking to try and make the NCAAs.

Maybe. But that alone doesn't put LSU in the NCAAT. What is the non-conf. schedule going to look like? LSU plays in the Maui Invitational, which should at least give them one (possibly three) good neutral site games. Memphis is also on the schedule, but their outlook for next season is pretty bleak right now

Jones had plenty of flaws as a coach, but one of the biggest is that he generally did himself no favors with consistently shitty non-conf. scheduling. His teams always had very little margin for error entering SEC play because they rarely challenged themselves outside the conf (which was usually weak).

The first thing we have to see is the full roster. If he can land Alstork, then a starting 5 of: Mays, Alstork, Sampson, Combs, Reath should be very athletic if nothing else. Next, if Wade can beef up the OOC schedule, then LSU will give itself a shot to make some hay in Nov/Dec. that could pay off significantly in Jan/Feb/March

Until we know the path, it's impossible to say "this should (or shouldn't) be a _____tournament team."

Long road back. Wade will right the ship but not next year. 6/7 SEC wins a .500 overall or close record is about most optimistic.

Yeah, this used to piss me off too...and then he'd talk about what a challenging non-conference schedule he had....like we didn't remember who he played.

Don't expect anything from a new Coach with Potpourri players.
If they do well you will be pleasantly surprised instead of disappointment.

Look tbh I honestly don't care what Wade does in these first 2 years as long as the team looks to give a shite. Half this team wasnt even on last year's team so idk how good the individual talent is. Nonetheless, I can't wait for this season to start.

NIT is a fair bar for success in year 1, but I don't expect it.

For everyone saying it's realistic to be in the tournament..

That's completely laughable. I think we'll be better than last year, but something closer to 8-10 or 9-9 in conference play.

Hopefully, Wade can teach the guys to stop jumping before they pass.

68 teams make it. Consistently being the best team in your state is a good start.

I believe that 20 wins is an obtainable goal.
