Stallings, how can you throw low to mid 90's and your pitches look like meatballs?

He's starting out this year just like last year.

Who's the closer?

Here's an article in today's Baton Rouge paper. It explains Stallings mechanics issues that's made his fastball catch too much of the plate.
quote:

More troubling, Stallings said, were mechanics issues. His stride was short in his delivery, and he neglected to keep his shoulders square when throwing the baseball.

“I kind of flew open, and it would cause me to come off and the ball to go right back over the plate,” Stallings said. “You could probably see me throw a pitch (last season) that starts outside that comes over the middle of the plate. When it does that, it doesn’t matter how hard you throw, they’re going to hit it.”

yikes

The scary thing is, this is not the year to sacrifice offense for defense. We need 1-9 to contribute. I'm sure he's just in a funk and hopefully gains some confidence at the plate soon.

So what's his excuse now?

Stallings has been among the most impressive relievers to emerge from a crowded, veteran bullpen that LSU coach Paul Mainieri will slowly allow to sort itself out.

I'm here...practice hitting means nothing. Lets see what plays out during the season once the SEC schedule begins.

so should coach disregard what he sees in practice and just start the guys with the best personalities?

if it means nothing, why do they practice?

What would be an acceptable, in your opinion, team BA for the season?
