He has to build the pitcher's stamina up.
It's like MLB spring training right now.
They are not trying to light up radar guns the first weekend of scrimmages.
The pitchers are slowly building towards opening weekend and they will be on pitch counts that weekend. Then they build towards SEC play.

As far as hitting goes, I heard they stung some yesterday but the wind and cold this weekend is not conducive to producing much offense.

Yeah, Mainieri said they may throw as many as 13 pitchers opening weekend. So the starters will probably go 5 each (depending on pitch count) and then the relievers splitting up the remaining 12 innings. But no one will be throwing a ton week 1.

After a wild pitch moved him to third, Slaughter hit a grounder to SS and Bryce Jordan threw wild to first, scoring Smith. Coach Mainieri called "end of inning."

Thanks for explaining, I was there and still didn't know what happened. Smith was awesome getting a hit then stealing bases. Would have been nice if the only score of the game could have played out better. They even left a zero on the clock for like 5 mins before even counting the run.

But if you throw a breaking pitch in the dirt they are going to swing at it. The other team could tell them that they're throwing a curveball in the dirt and they'll still swing at it. Love the Jordan twins and they are good baseball players but they need to learn to lay off on that pitch because they always swing at it

Didn't Bryce lead the team in BB, HBP and OBP last season?

Both hit a slump towards the end of the year, but let's not pretend Bryce was not a tremendous asset getting on base consistently.

Bryce seems to look leaner this season. Possibly better shape. He's a heck of a player where ever he ends up.

The chilly weather was definitely a factor in the lack of offense. I saw only two balls hit out during batting practice and both were to RF with the wind pushing them.

Noticed that Lange has not pitched in any of the Scrimmages. Is there a problem or just waiting his turn?

He's going to be expected to throw about 120 innings this season, so they're probably just starting him a little later to save his arm and have him peak later.

I'm guessing Lange may throw this Friday to start getting into the season routine.
