That is why Mainieri sent him out for one out to get the win.

Actually Ranaudo qualified as the winner as soon as the Tigers took the lead. He did not need to record another out since he completed the 5th inning. He was the pitcher of record when the lead was taken. Mainieri strategically wanted one more out before bringing Jones in.
