We could have scored either way. It's not like ladies couldn't have moved him over without bunting. Not to mention laird is 6 for his last 13.

That laird at bat shows precisely why Mainieri teams never wear a pitcher down unless we rack up double digit hits. Their pitcher walks the leadoff, and we try I out the ball in play as early as possible. Tried to bunt, but it was a ball. Hey pitcher, we'll help you out by putting the hit and run on, so our batter will now swing at any pitch you throw.

I just don't like it because it takes away any potential you have of a big inning.

That's not true. He went to team bunt against Yale and has done it ever since. We weren't struggling to hit at that point.

Besides the team can hit. And probably would more than we have if we didn't give away so many outs.
