Houston is a sleeper breakout star this season.

Personally, I think Wisconsin fans should be more worried about getting adequate quarterback play than hoping Bart Houston has a chance to be a "star this season."

Not only was Houston a highly-rated HS quarterback that failed to take the reigns at quarterback for his first four years, but he is throwing to a group of receivers that have less combined career catches than Alex Erickson had in all of 2015. Of course, a guy like Rob Wheelwright is a talented player. Wheels has shown a knack for making big plays (i.e. one-handed catch against USC in the Holiday Bowl), but being his own worst enemy (worst drop-rate in the B1G).

but I think this further solidifies Badgers chances of winning this game.

By all accounts, Houston and Alex Hornibrook (RS Freshman) were neck-and-neck throughout spring and fall camps. I don't see how this further solidifies Wisconsin's chances at winning this game. It's not like Houston has an abundance of game experience. He took his first, and only, meaningful snaps against Illinois less than a year ago when Joel Stave went down.

As mentioned previously, I'm more worried about getting adequate quarterback play than I am hoping Houston becomes some "breakout star."

It wasn't until this last season that Joel Stave had a stranglehold on the starting quarterback position.

we also have some talented receivers ready to break out and make Bart's job a little easier. He's been in the system for years, knows the playbook, and as long as he doesn't turn the ball over and our defense plays to their potential the BADGERS will have Lambeau rockin as usual. Lambeau magic baby, get ready for the BADGERS to win!

What system has Bart Houston been in for years? Paul Chryst and Joe Rudolph just completed year-one in 2015...

Ok, so let's hear your lineup

Wisconsin players in the NFL... Make a starting lineup on offense and defense.....

I'll wait

Not that I give a shite about this discussion, but there is little doubt an NFL roster of former LSU players dwarfs Wisconsin...

That being said, Wisconsin deserves some credit for taking unheralded HS prospects and developing them into contributing NFL players. Out of the 33 players on NFL rosters, 30 were either a walk-on, two-star, or three-star in HS.

Yeah man... We played a very good RB in the first match up and we had a very young defense and offense. In fact everyone of our WR were frosh or second year players. LF was a frosh in his very first game. OL wasn't the best and we were starting a qb for the first time, all are drastically different circumstances this year. It's a veteran group basically all the way around. LF was more patient last year and I think will be playing in slow motion this year meaning he's going to be setting guys up much much more this year. Our WRs are senior and junior now and our defense are all 3 or 4 year guys from the line to the backfield. Oh and two deep with sophomore and highschool all American freshman behind them all. We also have this guy named Aranda coaching and calling the plays. Will be a much more disciplined and smart defense. Y'all should know this coming from wisky, he's a very very smart coach and they will personify him. GOOD LUCK

I really believe we will go all out stopping the run and be extremely successful. As in possibly less than 50 yards successful. Once this happens and wisky realizes this is a much different LSU, things will get ugly.

Bart Huston defended Yulia Efimova and openly rooted for her to beat Lilly King.

Yeah wisky fans actually think he's gonna look like this all American starting his first game against this veteran LSU team?? Wow... This team has a chance at being on another level this year. With Aranda as coach and play caller I think we will punish their run game and this guy is going to panic and they will be lucky if he doesn't come out of this game with some serious war wounds. I don't think people realize how fast veteran kids learn and know exactly what it takes to dominate these games. I think LF has a big game, I don't care how disciplined this team is lol. GOOD LUCK though GT

The guy is not implying that. He's saying that Lambeau will also be tough sledding for LSU. You are a bigger homer than him. He's saying the game will be tough, and he's allowing that LSU should be favored.

HoopsGalore, I will respond seriatim:

quote:

As mentioned previously, I'm more worried about getting adequate quarterback play than I am hoping Houston becomes some "breakout star."

Precisely why I think he is a sleeper. Kid has a hell of an arm and was originally recruited by Chryst when he was OC. Anderson was never going to give him a pure pocket passer a chance and Chryst had to go with a then 3 year start in Stave last year. Chryst has consistently shown the ability to develop QBs and I think Houston will have benefited from his tutelage over the last 18 months. This kid is a good athlete and I think he is going to surprise people (including you) this year.

Again, I go back to Gary Anderson who created an absolute debacle between Stave and McEvoy. Your'e dogging on a guy that is the all-time winningest QB in school history and is currently on an NFL roster. He'll make the Vikings and you'll still dog him but that is a hell of an accomplishment that maybe 1% of college QBs can claim.

Hell of a troll. Adds nothing to the discussion.

I take exception to that and I think people could make the same argument about you. Stop being a hater.

quote:

Please... Dude is not in the NFL because of his quarterbacking at Wisconsin.

I'd argue that he's in the NFL because of his complete body of work and his athletisicm which he proved to people by playing multiple positions (including QB). A quote from Darrell Bevell, OC of Seahawks - “He’s a quick learner, a quick study. Obviously, he’s played safety for us, he’s played receiver for us, he’s played tight end, next thing you know he might be back there at quarterback. We’re moving him all over the place. He’s just doing a great job. Flexible, great mind and we can use him in a lot of situations and he is going to do the right thing.”

Chryst recruited him originally and they've now had two spring practices, one full season, and one fall camp under their belts. Chryst is a specialist at developing QBs (i.e. Wilson, Tolzien, Stave - all NFL QBs) and I don't think it will be any different with Houston.

I'm not so sure about that. Yes, LSU has many more NFL players than UW but I would argue that we might field a more complete team. I posted a UW roster earlier and am still waiting for someone to get an LSU one up. While LSU can certainly boast more talented players at WR and DB, I'd rather have UW's QB, RB, O-line, and arguably D line (simply because of Watt). Linebackers are a wash...

C'mon, dude...

Have you been to Lambeau? Do you understand the significance of the Badgers playing there? 3/4 of our roster grew up dreaming of playing in Lambeau and I think there is going to be alot of emotion and motivation because of what that stadium means to them and the Wisconsin fan-base. LSU is probably as comfortable as any team in a hostile environment but I do think that Lambeau could provide some magic for the Badgers. It is an intangible that should not be ignored.

Dude, have some faith in your squad. I'd love to go back and look at the posts you made before we beat Kentucky in the final four a few years back or even the Auburn and USC bowl games of late. Wisco can hang with the big boys but you sure seem to be one of the biggest UW doubters that I've come across in quite some time.

For those interested, here is his film against Illinois:
Houston vs Illinois

Not very mobile. Has an ok arm. Not afraid to let it rip. In other words he is confident with his throws. That can be good and bad as is evident from the picks he threw in the game. I think he will have a tough day and will throw interceptions against our stout secondary.

Some of those throws against LSU secondary are going to get eaten up.
