I'm honestly more worried about Sims as a runner than a passer. I think LSU will be able to contain Cooper with the DB's, not shut down completely, but contain. Hoping LSU don't forget Sims is one hellova runner, as good as Prescott or better. Alexander and Beckwith will have their work cut out for them Saturday.

bama is also 0-3 against the last 3 top 20 teams they've played.

I'm just saying you were a bit misleading. Bama's only played one top 20 defense (Ole Miss). The other good defense they played was Florida, and they destroyed them. That data point just gets left out when you cut it off at 20. Move your cut off to 25 and your point isn't nearly as strong.

The "eye test" apparently means, look at them with your eyes. If you see maroon As, they must be great.

Would you feel better if I put Florida in teh subject line considering how much of a juggernaut they are?

Only difference between Florida and LSU is a last second field goal.

Just like the only difference between Alabama and a team that hasn't won an SEC game since 2012 is 1 point, right?

Have you seen AJ play? He's honestly not that great

I see not advantage for either team at the QB slot

this game will be won in the trenches. If our OL can push their DL we win

IF not they win

I agree that for the most part the game will be won in the trenches, but if you don't think Blake Sims is an advantage over AJ Jennings you're just absolutely insane.

How do we stack (height / weight) against them on the Line?

I hate to agree with you on this one.

They also haven't beaten a ranked opponent outside of BDS since week 3 of last season. And I mean while that opponent was ranked.

That's sort of the point. Bama has played an extremely weak schedule so it is really hard to get any sort of read on their quality.

Amari Cooper is the real deal, though.

100% of the time, Baloo, I can trust you that your reading comprehension is 2nd to none.

Alabama is a good team. Playmakers all over the field excellent coaching. Many respected analysts think they are the best team in the country. They have more to play for and are coming here to win the game.

LSU will have to play very well in order to beat them. Theres really nothing else to say, hopefully our QB has his breakout game this week.

Thanks. It sort of amazed me that someone didn't pick up on what you're getting at. Bama's schedule is extraordinarily back loaded. now, it's possible they are as awesome as their numbers look, but it's more likely that they are a good team that has beaten the crap out of some bad teams.

65.5% completion pctg, 10.17 yards per attempt, 15 td's and only 3 ints. I would love that kind of production at this point from LSU's qb's. He's a very good Qb.

I think if you keep Cooper from YAC, and contain Sims, you can affect their offense. It's not nearly as easy as it sounds though.

Essentially every year prior to the LSU game we get the same question about Alabama. This kind of circles back to the OP's question

quote:

Why is Alabama able to pass the "eye test" THIS year like they do every year?

Because like it or not, they get the benefit of the doubt. Not because of some supposed "media bias", but because past history has shown they are as good as everyone thinks they are year in and year out. Only one time in the last 6 years have they lost more than 1 game in the regular season. That may change this season (hopefully Sat. night!), but the reason they pass the "eye test" every year is because they're good.

quote:

Because they are Alabama and they are inside almost every poll persons head

When you're a combined 67-5 in the regular season over the last 6 years you tend to occupy a lot of space. Again, I'm not a Bama fan in any way whatsoever. But I can step away from my LSU fandom and give credit where credit is due.
