Actually a smart move. Hotels will probably be cheaper in Lafayette

Yes that's true. I just really figured this would have been an "earmarked" full band game way back when and arrangements taken care of a long time ago. As an LSU fan that travels I-10 to the games, I'd laugh if they get stuck in traffic .. that basin bridge sucks.

190 is a widely known alternate route.

We better not let them on our field.

The article is misleading... College bands NEVER stay in the same town that the game is in. NCAA rules. It prevents any auxiliary traveling with the team from messing with the opponents campus/team, etc.

Not sure if someone already mentioned this, but when I was in the GBFTL we ALWAYS stayed in a city at least an hour away from where the game site was, with the exceptions of Atlanta SECCG/NOLA bowl games.

1) They don't want their band members going out and mingling with the locals, i.e. getting in fights, getting in trouble somehow, etc.
2) Bands are so large that they take up almost an entire medium size hotel, so it makes sense to stay a little farther out.
3) Get better deals by avoiding the jacked up room rates in SEC towns the weekend of huge games.

I hate Bama as much as the next, but they're not stupid for doing this. Pretty much standard procedure.

ETA: They probably aren't recruiting, as someone mentioned. I would bet they are leaving Lafayette by no later than 9 AM to ensure they arrive timely (which is 2 hours early by band standards) and have lunch prior to their rehearsal.
