Whats the deal with Frank Herron

had some injury issues during the summer, reportedly may have had minor surgery so not sure how much development time in camp he had.

Also seemed to recall that Gilmore reported very heavy and not in good shape. Bain hasn't been playing football long, so I don't think he was ever thought to be a day 1 contributor. I think it was Gordy Rush who made the comment on the radio the other day that Bain and Gilmore had work to do on technique, but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary for a true freshman

So true, most true freshmen don't play, especially in the trenches. With all the info now available on recruits way to much is expected on true freshmen in my opinion. Back in the day hardly anything was known about most of these guys and then they all had to sit out there first year and many then redshirted their sophomore year. And became stars after that!

True but there are several freshmen playing well for our rivals. The kid from Bama, Auburn has two and of course Nikdemchi are however you spell it.

Don't forget the three for LSU, Robinson, White, and Lacouture!

Iirc, both Herron and Gilmore were out of shape. Are we still in play for Valentine? Also, do y'all think GW3 & Godchaux will project to add weight and slide inside?

From the pictures i saw from fall camp herron looked to be at least 20 lbs over weight. He looked pretty bad. Gilmore showed up over weight as well. You would think these kids wouldve busted their asses all summer to show up to camp in the best shape of their lives.

LaCouture started LSU in January and got to participate in the offseason conditioning program and I believe some player orchestrated drills as well. He also got up to speed during spring practice. He became a favorite with the coaches because he worked hard and was coachable.

You left out the part that the guy can play.
Pretty important.

Didn't read all three pages. But consider this... Michael brockers, Bennie Logan, and josh downs were all in same sighting class I believe. Brockers and Logan had to RS, downs played in the two deep. Where are they now.

You recruit athletes with potential. Some come in more ready than others. Not saying lacoutre couldn't end up being the best but don't count out the guys not playing yet. People are only disappointed because they were ranked higher than brockers Logan were.

Unless college pads are inordinately heavier than HS pads, Brazil has plenty of football speed, and the straight line comment is straight up BS.

great point. In the end, Brockers >>>> Logan >>> Downs. It didn't look that way in year 1 one for them. And all 3 gave quality minutes and proved they were worthy of their scholarships.

Me too. Brockers, Logan nor Dorsey were getting the PT this early that Lacouture is getting.

The two in bold were redshirted. they didn't see the field their freshmen year.

actually Dorsey was. he was the 3rd DT behind Wroten and Kyle, and actually started a few games as a true freshman.

But he was not impressive his freshman...in fact, he wasn't a standout until his third year...yes, he played before that, but his technique wasn't really great until year 3... jmho...and Tyson Jackson red-shirted too, I believe...I think that many forget/or never knew/ just how physically tough playing DT is...it's a man's job...you got to be mature and damn tough!
